Jimi Gaydrix

Jimi Hendrix is really one of the best musicians to have ever lived. He played that electric guitar like he was touched by a greater power. Seeing this news story about him doesn't change my opinion on him, but it's pretty damn funny.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Jimi Hendrix, regarded as one of the greatest electric guitar players and known as a prodigious womanizer, lied about being gay to get out of the U.S. Army and pursue his true love -- music, according to a new biography of the rock legend.

Apparently, Hendrix had enlisted in the 101st Airborne in 1961. It was either that or go to jail for stealing cars. 13 months later, he was discharged. He claimed that it was an injured ankle, but his discharge papers state "Homosexual Tendencies". This new biography uncovers the fact that Hendrix actually pretended to be gay to be discharged from the military, saving him from going off to Vietnam. Not that it prolonged his life much. If he didn't die to a Vietcong bullet, it would have been the overdose that did him in.

Heck, if I were him, either then or now, I probably would have pretended to be gay to get out. It was either Vietnam or Iraq. I would have showed up for psych evaluations wearing Jessica Simpson's daisy dukes and a tied up t-shirt with a camo handbag and those giant boots those raver kids wear. Anything to get out of the insanity that is the current administration's battle plan.
