Studio Ghibli is working on an adaptation of Ursula K. Le Guin's "Legend of Earthsea", which was previously adapted by the SciFi Channel. It was as forgettable as Kristin Kreuk's acting abilities and Shawn Ashmore's non-Iceman'iness. Somehow, just being able to emote 2 feelings on screen just doesn't cut it. Anyway, those SciFi movies/mini-series don't hold a candle to Miyazaki's production house. Ghibli has cranked out some really memorable movies. Things like Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. All great anime movies which actually capture my wife's attention. She usually hates the stuff, but Miyazaki's work she gets excited about.
Even though it's a Studio Ghibli production, it's not going to be directed by Hayao himself, but rather by his son Goro Miyazaki. By the look of the trailer I found on the Japanese website, it's already looking very polished and interesting . . . even though I don't know what the hell the story is about. If you are a fan of anime, check out this link, it'll take you to the trailer page. Make sure you have the latest Macromedia Flash Player. This production has a July release in Japan, which means we'll be waiting until next year for Disney (they have distribution rights for all Ghibli features) to release this on DVD here.
