The Walking Dead Photographed

"The Walking Dead", arguably one of the best zombie comic books out there, has been in production over at AMC, the fine studio that brought everyone "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" and they also have Frank Darabont on the job, the genius behind "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Mist". It's currently shooting on location in Atlanta, Georgia, and these pictures were taken there. It's looking pretty cool. I can't wait to see these zombies shambling around on my television. I've always thought that the only thing missing from TV was more zombie action. Here are a couple of more pictures from the set. Enjoy.






This last picture is of Andrew Lincoln, who is playing the part of Rick Grimes, the protagonist from the comics. This looks just like the comics. I love that. Please make sure you watch the 6 episode run they've got when it hits AMC so we can get more of this kind of programming.

Daybreakers Trailer

The Spierig Brothers, directors of the rather fun but ultimately uneven Australian zombie flick "Undead", are back, this time taking on vampires in their latest film titled "Daybreakers". From the looks of this trailer, it would appear that they got some quality actors this time around for their futuristic look at a world overrun by bloodsuckers. Check out the trailer. The movie should be coming out soon. Not exactly sure when it comes out. I've been out of the loop lately when it comes to movie premier dates. But, I'm sure you can do a Google search or something. Sheesh, do I have to do everything for you?

The Walking Dead Shamble Over to AMC

"The Walking Dead" has to be one of my all time favorite zombie stories out there. The fact that it's still going in comic book form (I just wait for the TPB) is fantastic. Hollywood has taken note of Robert Kirkman's intricate and painfully brutal story and a network that could do it justice has taken interest. AMC, home of "Mad Men", wants to put Frank Darabont (The Mist, Shawshank Redemption) in charge of raising the dead . . . on TV. AICN, the place where this miracle of news found me, has a link over to Variety where you can read more about the deal. I personally can't wait to see this.

Zombieland Trailer

"Zombieland" is something I had heard about a few months ago, but didn't know much about it other than it's supposed to be a zombie comedy starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin. Now, Apple has the trailer for the movie, in Quicktime, for your zombie viewing pleasure here. From the looks of the trailer, it seems like this might be a pretty fun movie. Take a peek at the trailer and get ready to visit "Zombieland" when it opens in wide release later this year.

Plants Vs Zombies

This is the first time I've ever seen anything like this. From what I can discern from this rather adorable trailer for the new game "Plants Vs Zombies" is that there are zombies on the lawn, and they want to eat your brain. Your only line of defense is your solar powered garden. Pop Cap games just released this game yesterday, and you can head out to this Fileshack page to download a demo of the game. It's not free, if you end up liking it, you'll have to buy the game for real. But, the premise alone should warrant at least a demo download. If you're an anti-zombie horticulturist, then this might be right up your alley.

Mutant Zombie Vampires from the Hood Trailer?

This kind of reminds me of "Gangs of the Dead", and to tell you the truth, it doesn't look too promising. But, it might end up being like a low-budget awesome-fest. In any case, it's got C. Thomas Howell, and if you're asking yourself: "Who is C. Thomas Howell?", then the 80's would like to say: "Fuck off and show some respect. Goddamn whipper snappers". Check out the trailer.

Quarantine Trailer

"Quarantine" is not a movie I've heard of until now. Thanks the guys over at Analog Medium, I now know this movie is coming out this year. Those guys have their fingers on the zombie pulse. How they found a pulse to begin with is a mystery. This movie is in the same vein as "The Blair Witch Project" and, more recently, George A. Romero's "Diary of the Dead". That film was fun but flawed. I'm thinking "Quarantine" will give us some fun zombie action, but in the end, will be fundamentally flawed. All of these "found footage" movies (I'm looking at you too "Cloverfield") are enjoyable, but end up missing the cinematic tour-de-force that they want to be. Fuck it . . . Zombies! I'm watching it.

Zombie Strippers Trailer

The cinematic tour de force "Zombie Strippers" is about to be released. I'm not sure if it's going straight to DVD, or if it will play your local cineplex for a few miserably short days. With a name like that, the movie has to be so bad it's good. Robert Englund, from the "Friday the 13th" movies is in, along with Jenna Jameson, who by now, after all of that plastic surgery, is starting to look like an actual zombie stripper.

Protect America from Zombies!

You know, I was not a big proponent of George W. Bush taking office . . . but, seeing this video now, and knowing what his stance is on the looming zombie apocalypse, I think he needs to stay in office another 2 terms. At least. He can be the FDR of the 21st century. Think about it. Do you really think Hillary Clinton could kill a zombie? Maybe John McCain . . . that guy is bad ass. The vietcong stuck him in a cage man. And Barak Obama? He'd probably just try to out-dance the zombies. No way. I am suddenly a Republican thanks to this video.

"Diary of the Dead" is a movie that I am definitely looking forward to seeing this year. I didn't think that I would actually see the trailer for it on a MySpace page (ugh, I feel a little icky. Like I have e-VD or something), but whatever. I'll do anything for Romero zombie action. I've noticed that the "found film" genre is resurfacing after being absent since "The Blair Witch Project". Both this movie and "Cloverfield" are hoping to cash in on our forgetting of how sub-par that first movie to catapult this into our consciousness actually was. Maybe I'm over thinking this. Fuck it, it's Romero and in my eyes, when it comes to zombies, he can do no wrong.

Amy Winehouse is Stylin'

I guess it takes a certain style sensibility to walk around in a pair of jeans and a bra that I don't have. Not that I would wear a bra to begin with. My man-cans are not all that well developed. But, that's not really relevant. Amy Winehouse, on the other hand, does have that style going on, but she adds another layer to it by looking like a homeless zombie in the process. She could, with a little movie-magic make-up, actually be dropped into any movie George A. Romero might be directing right now and she would fit right in. Instead of brains or human flesh, she might be seeking drugs, but she does have the zombie look down. One more picture to haunt your nightmares.

Box Office Report - Resident Ka-Ching!

Resident Evil: Extinction - Taking the top spot this weekend, with $24 million, I did not think this movie would do as well as it did. I was expecting a modest box office take in the $10 million range, but it has surpassed my expectations. Which means, maybe when I go check it out in a couple of days, it will not disappoint my thirst for zombies and chicks engaging in acrobatic martial arts.

Good Luck Chuck - I was expecting this turd of a movie to make it to the top of the box office charts, but I guess America just isn't that into Dane Cook. It still raked in $14 million, but I'm thinking it was just people paying $10 to see Jessica Alba's dress ripped off to reveal some cute penguin undies. But they had shown that already in the commercials for this movie . . . so considered yourself suckered.

The Brave One - Jodie Foster's revenge gun porn movie is still hanging in there. It drops to #3 after being the top dog last week. And, it still does not garner any of my interest or attention. Maybe if they had Jessica Alba in penguin undies going on a vigilante streak it would piqued my interest . . . but as it is, I might catch it on cable.

3:10 to Yuma - This western I am actually interested in seeing, but I might just wait until the DVD release. Not because it looks bad, but rather because I am feeling specially lazy lately and I don't want to have to pay for this just now. It's doing pretty well without my patronage, so I'll leave it at that.

Eastern Promises - The commercials for this movie make it seem like a bore. Naomi Watts and Viggo Mortenson just don't have much of an on-screen chemistry going. But, on the flip-side (I can't believe I just used that term), it is directed by David Cronenberg, and his films are always crazy. Just recently he directed the commercially-successful movie "A History of Violence", which also starred Viggo. This one might be great as well. While not waiting for the DVD on this one, I might check it out at the discount theater in a month or two.

Opening Weekend Movies - 9/21/07

Good Luck Chuck - You might be a little confused with the marketing for this movie. When I first saw a trailer for this a few months ago, it was all about Dane Cook and every woman he sleeps with finding their true loves after he slept with them. Which causes problems for him when he falls for Jessica Alba. More recently, the marketing for this switched to Dane Cook falling for Jessica Alba, and the only problem is that Jessica Alba's character is really accident prone. And now . . . they're marketing it both ways. At the same time. So, wether or not it is confusing as all shit, you still should not go watch this. It looks like a turd of a movie.

Resident Evil: Extinction - The "Resident Evil" movies have been a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. They have zombies, and they're based on a video game, but they're not all that great. Definitely not Romero-worthy, but . . . it's still zombies. So, I'll probably go check it out sometime in the near future and then buy the DVD. I don't know why. It is just bound to happen. I have the first two, so I might as well get it . . . right?

Sydney White - Amanda Bynes remakes "Snow White" . . . set in a college sorority, and hilarity ensues? Maybe not. Amanda Bynes movies are for the tween-crowd, which I think I passed up during my early developmental years. I don't also watch the Disney Channel every single day. That, and I'm not a girl, so therefore I am genetically predisposed to not be interested in this movie whatsoever.

New Romero Zombie Flick - "Diary of the Dead"

George A. Romero is a zombie movie-making genius. I love it when he takes on the genre and blows my mind with it. His new movie concept, while sounding a bit on the . . . well . . . how can I put it without disparaging a personal hero of mine. OK, I'm just coming out and saying it . . . The idea is "Romero zombies + Blair Witch Project". Yeah, it's a bit iffy, but I have complete confidence in the execution. Here's a couple of pictures from the movie's MySpace page. I'm digging the zombie state trooper.

Phillipine Prison System

The American Prison System is a failure. Overcrowding. Violence. And it wastes valuable talent on manufacturing license plates and street signs. We should take a look at the prison system in the Phillipines to find out just what needs to be done with our inmate population. Just check out the video. 1,500 inmates, all dancing, in a near perfect choreographed performance of Micheal Jackson's "Thriller". And that's just their practice. I don't know what the actual performance was like . . . but if it was as good as this, then I would have cheered for an encore. That and the inmates pretending to be zombies . . . just classic. What of the fate of the "girl" at the end of the video? Probably gang-ass-raped. But hey . . . sacrifices need to be made to ensure this type of quality.

Sharon Stone is a Zombie?

Wow. When did this happen? I thought that Sharon Stone still looked relatively OK considering her advanced age, but right now, looking at these picture, it looks like she just clawed her way out of a coffin that was buried 6 feet underground, and is looking for some fresh brains to satiate the hunger inside her. Maybe it's make up for a new movie she's starring in. Whatever it is, someone needs to put this old bitch in a nursing home and away from the public eye. Or, just turn her into Soylent Green. Who cares. The point is . . . she needs to go away.

28 Weeks Later Trailer (HD)

So, yesterday I showed you the poster for the movie "28 Weeks Later", the sequel to "28 Days Later". Being that today is a brand new day, I thought I'd provide you with the link to the trailer's website so you can see it in glorious Quicktime HD. Trust me, it's the only way to view trailers. I recommend the 720P format, which took up my whole computer's screen to display. Plus, the file is not as large as the 1080P version, but hey, if you have the time and the screen real estate, then knock yourself out.

From what I can tell from the trailer this one is about a family returning to London after the epidemic that pretty much destroyed the city in the first movie. Of course, it wouldn't be any fun if the zombies . . . err . . . I mean "infected" didn't show up again, and they do. From there on, it's a desperate race for survival as these "infected" are bloody fast and triple mean.

I'm a big fan of the first movie and will definitely go watch this one when it comes out. You can check the trailer for the movie here. Enjoy.

28 Weeks Later One Sheet

Since I made a reference to this movie and it's predecessor in my post dealing with my upcoming birthday preparations, I thought I'd post up the really bad ass poster they came up with for it. I haven't personally seen this up at any movie theater that I go to, but that's only because I don't see that many movies anymore at the local cineplexes. This is still, though, a very powerful and propaganda'ish looking image that captures the feel of a world (or country) thrown into a zombie-fueled turmoil. I am looking forward to seeing this in theaters when it is released here in the United States. I hope they keep the grimy, DV-Cam, hand-held style of the first one. Zombie movies should not be pretty.

28 Years Later

No, it's not the continuation of the "28 Days Later" and "28 Weeks Later" movies, although, my life needs a little zombie battling action. I mean, whose doesn't right? My 28th year on this planet is looming ever so closely, and I, for the first time in my long and storied existence on this stellar body we call "Earth" . . . am not all that excited about it. I don't know why. Maybe it's because the previous 27 birthdays haven't been all that memorable. I'm not your typical party animal I guess. I'm more comfortable hanging out with a drink and chilling rather than getting all crazy drunk (crunk) and inciting a riot that would attract the attention of the police.

Which is what might happen this weekend, when my wife is throwing me a little get-together/party with a few of our friends. There's always potential for mayhem when these sorts of things happen. I've been to the parties that have been held at some of these people's houses, and they tend to get buck-wild. Me, being the conciderate prick that I am, am actually worried that we'll get a noise complaint and that I'll have to deal with a couple of cops on that night. I'm planning on drinking, so I can only imagine that any conversation I have with the fuzz while inebriated might not end well for me.

So, would that end up being the ultimate present? Will Jaime have a run in with the long arm of the law on his birthday? I guess you'll have to tune in next week to find out. I wonder if they have internet access at the local jails these days. Instead of getting my one free phone call, I could opt out and get one free blog post. Oh man, this isn't even funny.

But, it could all end well and thanks to my wife, end up being the best birthday ever. I'm going with this one. Regardless of what happens, keep coming back for more, people.

Left 4 Dead

I was pretty disappointed by the fact that "Dead Rising" would not play on my XBOX 360. But, I'm not going to be a cry-baby about it. I don't have an HDTV set, so I probably would not have been able to read the text that looks smudgy on standard resolution television sets. But, a new zombie game is coming down the pipe. It's called "Left 4 Dead", and it's from Turtle Rock Studios. It uses the Source engine for the graphics, and you can check their still-in-construction site here for future updates like game-play videos and character profiles. You know, the standard stuff these sites usually have. If you want to see the first official trailer for the game, head out to Gamespot's page for the game to access a pretty cool video. I just hope this makes its way to the 360. Despite some problems some users might have had with "Dead Rising", it still sold pretty well. Which means there's a market for zombie games on consoles. Get cracking Turtle Rock Studios. Port that shit over so us console players can get a taste.
