Trailer Time - Black Devil Doll

"Black Devil Doll" is a movie that had escaped my knowledge up until now. Looks like it came out in 2008 and is currently out on DVD. So, if anyone out there was thinking of getting me a kick-ass Christmas present, this would be it. I mean, I wouldn't turn down a Lamborghini, but I'm sure I wouldn't enjoy it as much as this movie. Check out the extremely NSFW trailer, preferably from the comfort of your own home or unsupervised computer terminal. The disclaimer/warning at the end is just hilarious. This thoroughly offensive movie looks like something I would love to watch. Let me know if anyone has seen this and if it's worth it. Just drop your comments in the . . . hmm . . . "comments" section?

Futurama: The Return

So, my prayers have been answered. And yes, sometimes I pray for the return of good television programming that was yanked before it's time. I am, of course, talking about "Futurama", a show so superior in quality in comparison to anything that was on TV at that time that FOX decided to cancel it in its infinite wisdom. After all of their previous seasons selling like hotcakes and releasing 4 rather successful straight to DVD movies, "Futurama" has found a new home at Comedy Central, which I hope will treat it the way it deserves to be. You can check out the story at the Variety website. 26 all new episodes will begin airing mid 2010, so make sure you clear your schedule or program your TiVo (or whatever brand of DVR you use).

Trailer - One Eyed Monster

The only reason I'm posting up this trailer for a straight-to-DVD movie is because it features the killer penis of Ron Jeremy. Let me explain. Not that I love Ron Jeremy's male endowment, but rather, in this movie, his penis is possessed while shooting a porn movie by an extra-terrestrial entity that kills the infamous porn star, but, keeps the penis alive and no longer encumbered by it's previous human host. The crew and other co-stars of the movie then need to survive the attacks of this phallic monster. Do I want to watch this movie? Sure. Why not. It looks like a fun and campy horror movie. I'm sure there's not much that's scary, and performances might be average at best, but come on. It's a killer penis. Ron Jeremy's penis. Check out the trailer.

BAFW's Analog Review - The Zombie Diaries

So I've been on vacation. Maybe I should have said something before I left. But, to make it up I have this review up at Analog Medium of a zombie movie I watched while I was on vacation from you. I don't want to spoil it for you, so just click on their name and see what happens.

BAFW's Analog Review - Hulk Vs

I usually do book reviews for Analog Medium, but since I haven't been reading much . . . actually, let me rephrase that, haven't been finishing the books I've started reading recently, I figured I would review this little gem of Marvel animated goodness. You can check out the review here. Much thanks to the gentlemen that run Analog Medium. They're a class act. I think they even liked the review. Go figure. Check out their site and the rest of my reviews out there, and of course, their own content. You won't be disappointed (I think).

New Season of Futurama? Possibly Could Happen Maybe

Billy West, voice actor extraordinaire, was at a convention recently. I don't know which one, but I'm pretty sure that the video above will tell you just which con he was at. But that's not the important part. The important part, to us "Futurama" fans, is that FOX, after seeing how well the re-runs are doing on the Cartoon Network and how well the straight to DVD movies have been selling, is thinking about bringing back the show for a possible new season. Kind of like what they did with "Family Guy", but instead, this show would be good as opposed to terrible. Enjoy the video. There's some pretty good stuff in there. I might even check out Billy West in a live action, non-animated role in the movie he mentioned "Demoted". But that's contingent on "Futurama" getting back on the air.

I am a little worried though. FOX knows how to fuck up a good thing. They just might bring it back to hammer in the final nail in the coffin. But, I'd like to think of myself as an optimist. So, maybe they actually want good television programming on their network. One can only hope.

Christmas on Mars Trailer

This is not your typical Christmas movie. I hadn't heard of it until today actually. And its not a movie you might have caught in the theaters before it's impending DVD release (which if it didn't release yesterday, should be releasing soon). The movie was made by The Flaming Lips to play in rock concerts over the summer, and now you have the opportunity to check it out if you didn't get to see this band play a live show (which I didn't) this past year. Seriously, you need to find out if that baby will be OK or not.

My DVD Queue - 6/21/08

I buy a lot of DVD's. I have yet made the jump to Blu-Ray, largely due to the fact that I don't want to buy a PS3. But, I've come across an interesting phenomenon lately. I'm buying more movies than I have time to watch them in . . . I'm not sure if that makes sense, but here's my current list of pending DVD titles to watch.

Frontier(s) - I actually got this a good couple of weeks ago. From the DVD case itself, it says it's the French answer to "Hostel" and "Saw". So, I'm expecting lots of bloody torture.

Cloverfield - I've seen this movie. I bought the DVD just on the strength of that and also so I could see some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that it comes with. But, I bought this so long ago that I can't pin-point the exact time of purchase. It's well before I got "Frontier(s)", so that can give you an idea on how long I've been sitting on this DVD purchase.

Supernatural: Season 1 - This I already started watching, but since it's a whole season spread over 6 discs, it's taking me some time to watch. I only just recently started watching this CW show, and I didn't think I would be too much into it. I was wrong. This is a very well put together show, and the next DVD on the queue should attest to that.

Supernatural: Season 2 - This is next up on my DVD priority list. I think I've already said enough good things about this show. I still need to buy season 3, and pick up season 4 when it comes out so I can be all caught up.

Jumper - My wife and I started this movie already, and no wonder it didn't get great reviews when it hit theaters. Hayden Christiansen has to be one of the most unlikeable movie heroes of all time. We probably got through 1/3 of the movie before we had to turn it off. I'll definitely finish watching it, but it might sit around for a few weeks before I revisit this.

The Signal - This was just purchased yesterday, based on a review I read for "The Happening" which states that this is the movie that M. Knight Shyamalan's movie wanted to be. We got maybe 10 minutes into it before my wife got totally freaked out about it and said we should watch this during the day time. I might actually finish this movie up on Sunday, when I have some free time.

So, that's what I currently have to watch or need to finish watching. More updates as my DVD collection increases.

"Futurama - Beast With a Billion Backs" Trailer

This is the trailer to the 2nd Futurama full-length, straight to DVD feature film. I'm not sure how many more of these will come out. "Bender's Big Score" was amusing, and I'm pretty much going to pick this up just based on my love of "Futurama" in general. Even if it ends up being uneven and only funny half of the time, that's still leaps and bounds better than "The Simpsons". Blegh, why is that still on TV?

Zombie Strippers Trailer

The cinematic tour de force "Zombie Strippers" is about to be released. I'm not sure if it's going straight to DVD, or if it will play your local cineplex for a few miserably short days. With a name like that, the movie has to be so bad it's good. Robert Englund, from the "Friday the 13th" movies is in, along with Jenna Jameson, who by now, after all of that plastic surgery, is starting to look like an actual zombie stripper.

Cloverfield Alternate Endings

"Cloverfield" is getting its DVD release this month, and just in time for that, a couple of the alternate endings from that release have found their way onto YouTube. I enjoyed this movie, so chances are that I'll get it when it comes out on DVD. These endings don't deviate too much from what was originally included in the theatrical release, but they're still cool and therefore warrant a post about them.

BAFW Reviews - Afro Samurai

I recently picked up the “Afro Samurai” DVD. This was after I had rented it at the local video store, but the copy of it was so badly mangled that my XBOX 360 could not handle it, and the console’s DVD playback is not all that finicky, so it can usually play DVD’s that have been used and abused. But, what we had seen in the first few minutes of the title were so compelling that we decided to plunk down the cash to actually own it.

So, after the five episodes, my impressions are still ripe with awe and wonderment. I’m not saying this is the best piece of anime out there. But it is ranked amongst my personal top ten. And maybe it’s because it’s not all that Japanese. Sure, the style is, but the storytelling is very Western-ish. And it doesn’t hurt that they got an all-star voice cast for this. You’ve got Samuel L. Jackson playing the titular character (and his weird imaginary companion), Ron Perlman (Hellboy) as the main bad guy and Kelly Hu (Kelly who? She was in the X2: X-Men United movie . . . Lady Deathstrike) also lending her vocal talents.

So, enough about the details, right? Let’s get to the story (I’ll try to keep it spoiler-free). “Afro Samurai” tells the story of a boy who sees his father, the number one warrior, killed by the number two warrior in all the land. This sparks his quest to avenge his father and take his rightful place as the number one warrior. But first, he has to find the number two head-band, or else he can’t challenge his father’s murderer. The story shows us some flashbacks to Afro’s childhood, where he is taken in by a sword master and his clan of children and treated like another member of their impromptu family. Throughout these formative years, we see Afro develop his swordsmanship skills and his search for the mystical head-band that was taken from him shortly after seeing his father’s demise. We also get present time sequences where Afro is on the search for the number one, wasting pretty much anyone who he comes in contact with. His path of destruction is almost cataclysmic in magnitude. The action scenes are top notch by the way. The animation is so fluid and dynamic that it just grabs you by the balls and takes you on one hell of a ride.

Another cool thing about this anime is that even though you’ve got samurais, ninjas and geishas, there are also computers, cell phones and androids mixed in to the atmosphere. This leads me to believe that the setting for this story is on some parallel dimension or alternate universe where these two extremes co-exist. It makes for a very cool contrast and adds flavor to the battle sequences. Especially towards the end, when Afro has to battle an old foe from the past that is now part cyborg, complete with Darth Vader-ish breathing problems, but instead of a black-phallic shaped helmet, he’s wearing a giant teddy-bear head.

The music by Rza is also to be noticed. I’m not all that into the Wu-Tang Clan (gasp! I know, blasphemy), but I like what he’s done with the scoring and also bringing in other rappers in the mix to add another layer of coolness to this project.

An interesting tidbit here as well, letting you know how good this anime title is. My wife absolutely can’t stand anime. She hates it. But, she sat through this and actually enjoyed it. She actually prompted me to buy it when we were browsing through the DVD shelves of our local megalo-shopping-center. So, if it has her endorsement, then it should also appeal to non-anime fans. Actually, this title should appeal anyone who is thirsting for some extreme kick-ass-ery. Not just fans of anime, or fans of Sam Jackson, or fans of action flicks. This is a solid recommended title for anyone that enjoys quality film-making.

*Review also featured on Analog Medium. Great group of guys.

Just Your Typical Sunday

Yesterday was one of the rare occasions when I have a Sunday off, so the wife and I spent the day together. Nothing much in the way of super interesting things throughout the early part of the day. We woke up a bit on the late side, so we did not have breakfast, but ended up getting some lunch at this place called "The Oinkster" in Eagle Rock. She had a cheeseburger and fries (french/freedom) and I had the pastrami with fries. Heather was not all that impressed with her burger, but I enjoyed the pastrami. It is not served as salty as I'm used to eating it, but it was good. A bit on the pricey side though. Our meals ended up being just over 20 bucks, and I don't know how much you might make, but around here, for fast food . . . that's maybe a little bit much.

Next up on the agenda was to drive the route that my wife would have to take today to go to her first day orientation for the new job she just took on. A job which I referred her to at the bank, which means that 6 months from now, if she's still employed and doing well, I get a $500.00 bonus. I don't have a doubt in my mind that she won't do good. She's bright, hard working, and great with customers. And no, we won't be telling you which branch she's going to be working in. Partly because of privacy, but also because we don't work in a branch. Not all bank employees work in branches you know. Actually, the branch people are all idiots, and we kind of look down upon them. I don't care if they wear shirts and ties to work and we go in with jeans and t-shirts to work . . . they're all a bunch of idiots who don't know what the fuck they're doing. And that goes for every bank, not just the one we work for.

So, back to our Sunday. After that, we went to Pasadena, to my mother's house, to hang out in her pool for a couple of hours. Since we don't have a pool of our own, and it was close to 100 degrees yesterday, it was the only logical thing to do. We hung out there, had a little watermelon, chatted with my brother, step-father and mother about this and that, and took off after a quick shower (to get the chlorine off of me . . . my skin hates chlorine). We headed back home, but since it was still hot as balls, we took off for the nearest Best Buy to escape the heat and pick up a couple of items.

We didn't really need anything, but we wanted to test out if my wife's old employee discount still worked. She quit Best Buy for the job at the bank 2 weeks ago, and since we needed an aux-cable to hook up her iPod Shuffle to her Mazda 3's stereo, we thought we'd check out the price at least. She picked up a Dynex (Best Buy's brand) that retailed for just over 13 bucks. We took it over to a nearby computer, she keyed in her employee number, and the computer read back to us . . . . $1.23. Yes, one dollar and twenty-three cents. So, we took the cable, and walked around the DVD aisles for a bit, looking for something we had not yet seen. We settled for "Talladegah Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby", which was retailing for $19.99. We took our items to the register, she told the check out girl it would be an employee purchase, and lo and behold, it worked. We walked out of there paying 21 dollars and change, including tax, for something that a normal person walking in would have had to pay close to 40 bucks. Take that Best Buy!

Feeling a little hungry, and seeing a Costco next to the Best Buy, we figured we'd get some hot dogs and a soft drink for dinner. Costco is great for a cheap meal in a pinch, and since neither of us had any cash (who carries paper money anymore?), we raided my change cup for some funds, and managed to wrangle $3.25 in quarters, nickles and dimes. I felt like an old lady when it came to paying. But, that's not really the memorable part. As we were waiting in line, my wife leans over and whispers in my ear: "Look at the girl to your right". I do, and as I'm trying to figure out what she's talking about . . . I see it. A nipple, poking out of the top of this chick's tank top, in plain sight. And she does not realize it. It's like that nipple had lost all sensation on it. Her boyfriend walked up a couple of minutes later, and both my wife and I looked away. I think he let her know, because when we payed and walked away with our hotdogs and drinks, my wife told me that the nipple was no longer in sight.

After eating our dinner, we went home, played a little X Box 360 arcade games (she played the original Sonic the Hedgehog and I played Golden Axe . . . blasts from the past man) and watched the movie. During the movie, while going to the bathroom (not at the same time) we discovered a 5-legged spider living in our bathroom. We have no idea where it came from, or when it became disabled, but I named it "Gimpy" and let him stay there in his corner. We had to call it a night shortly after watching "Entourage" because Heather had to be at work at 8:30 AM (I just talked to her . . . she got there 45 minutes early) and that pretty much ended our Sunday.

Nipple-Topia - Jennifer Aniston

"The Break-Up" is not a movie I saw. I don't like Jennifer Aniston and, personally, I think that Vince Vaughn was just going through a period of booze-induced myopia when he was banging her on the set. Hey, we all have our dubious sexual conquests. This shot of Aniston's nipples comes from the full screen version of the DVD release. So, finally, a reason that justifies my continued insistence on buying widescreen DVD's.

A special thanks goes out to Egotastic.com for finding this, so that all of you man-faced chick lovers can enjoy. Those who do not enjoy the Jennifer Man-iston picture, you should all head out there and beat him up.

EDIT: It seems that Jennifer Aniston's legal team has sprung into action and has systematically erased any traces of this from the interweb. The sites that had the picture up either had an "edit" like this one, or the post was completely gone. I wonder why the picture of Jennifer Aniston topless somehow "violates" their terms, but Denise Richard's loose vagina lips are OK.
