Let Me In Trailer

"Let Me In" is the American remake of the superb Swedish vampire movie "Let the Right One In", which in itself was adapted from a novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist (you should take a few days to check that out as well). Now that you know all of that, let's just say that it looks pretty true to the original, but in ways, different than the original. Mostly due to the casting and a spoiler I won't reveal from the original. But the casting will have a huge impact on that, so until I get to see the movie, I'll keep it pretty hush hush. Unless you've seen the original yourself, you'll know what I'm talking about. Check out the trailer. The movie is directed by the guy that brought us "Cloverfield" and stars the Hit-Girl from "Kick-Ass".

My DVD Queue - 6/21/08

I buy a lot of DVD's. I have yet made the jump to Blu-Ray, largely due to the fact that I don't want to buy a PS3. But, I've come across an interesting phenomenon lately. I'm buying more movies than I have time to watch them in . . . I'm not sure if that makes sense, but here's my current list of pending DVD titles to watch.

Frontier(s) - I actually got this a good couple of weeks ago. From the DVD case itself, it says it's the French answer to "Hostel" and "Saw". So, I'm expecting lots of bloody torture.

Cloverfield - I've seen this movie. I bought the DVD just on the strength of that and also so I could see some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that it comes with. But, I bought this so long ago that I can't pin-point the exact time of purchase. It's well before I got "Frontier(s)", so that can give you an idea on how long I've been sitting on this DVD purchase.

Supernatural: Season 1 - This I already started watching, but since it's a whole season spread over 6 discs, it's taking me some time to watch. I only just recently started watching this CW show, and I didn't think I would be too much into it. I was wrong. This is a very well put together show, and the next DVD on the queue should attest to that.

Supernatural: Season 2 - This is next up on my DVD priority list. I think I've already said enough good things about this show. I still need to buy season 3, and pick up season 4 when it comes out so I can be all caught up.

Jumper - My wife and I started this movie already, and no wonder it didn't get great reviews when it hit theaters. Hayden Christiansen has to be one of the most unlikeable movie heroes of all time. We probably got through 1/3 of the movie before we had to turn it off. I'll definitely finish watching it, but it might sit around for a few weeks before I revisit this.

The Signal - This was just purchased yesterday, based on a review I read for "The Happening" which states that this is the movie that M. Knight Shyamalan's movie wanted to be. We got maybe 10 minutes into it before my wife got totally freaked out about it and said we should watch this during the day time. I might actually finish this movie up on Sunday, when I have some free time.

So, that's what I currently have to watch or need to finish watching. More updates as my DVD collection increases.

Quarantine Trailer

"Quarantine" is not a movie I've heard of until now. Thanks the guys over at Analog Medium, I now know this movie is coming out this year. Those guys have their fingers on the zombie pulse. How they found a pulse to begin with is a mystery. This movie is in the same vein as "The Blair Witch Project" and, more recently, George A. Romero's "Diary of the Dead". That film was fun but flawed. I'm thinking "Quarantine" will give us some fun zombie action, but in the end, will be fundamentally flawed. All of these "found footage" movies (I'm looking at you too "Cloverfield") are enjoyable, but end up missing the cinematic tour-de-force that they want to be. Fuck it . . . Zombies! I'm watching it.

Cloverfield Alternate Endings

"Cloverfield" is getting its DVD release this month, and just in time for that, a couple of the alternate endings from that release have found their way onto YouTube. I enjoyed this movie, so chances are that I'll get it when it comes out on DVD. These endings don't deviate too much from what was originally included in the theatrical release, but they're still cool and therefore warrant a post about them.

Opening Weekend Movies - 1/18/2008

27 Dresses - Total chick flick. Katherine Heigl plays the forever bridesmaid who finds love with Cyclops from the X-Men movie. I think his name is James Mardsen. I think. The trailer will possibly disclose his name. Who cares. I have zero interest in this. My wife, on the other hand, has a platonic crush on Heigl, and probably will want to see this either in the theaters or on DVD. All I know is that I will eventually watch this movie, wether I want to or not. Hell, if she continues on this Heigl crush, we might even pick up the "Roswell" TV show on DVD. Who knows. Cloverfield - OMG it's finally here. I love giant monster terrorizing people movies. Almost as much as I like zombie flicks. Which is why, "Cloverfield" is my pick of the week. And thankfully, my wife is fully on board with watching this movie. We're going to check this out tomorrow, after I get out of work (ugh . . Saturday? at work? What the fuck is happening to me?) early, to avoid the crowds. And I hope there are crowds that go see this. J.J. Abrams needs a solid theatrical hit right now, even though he's only producing this movie. The trailer makes it look amazing. You might have already seen it here, but check it out again anyway.



Mad Money - I watched half of the trailer for this movie, and I had to stop myself from shooting the computer. With my imaginary gun. I'd never shoot you computer . . . you're my only friend. Um . . . oh yeah, "Mad Money". Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah (does she have a first name?) and Katie Holmes concoct a plan to steal money that's about to be destroyed in an effort to recycle the money. So, in a sense, it's a chick-empowering heist movie with conservationist undertones. Or, as I like to call it . . . garbage. Watch the trailer and see for yourself.

"Diary of the Dead" is a movie that I am definitely looking forward to seeing this year. I didn't think that I would actually see the trailer for it on a MySpace page (ugh, I feel a little icky. Like I have e-VD or something), but whatever. I'll do anything for Romero zombie action. I've noticed that the "found film" genre is resurfacing after being absent since "The Blair Witch Project". Both this movie and "Cloverfield" are hoping to cash in on our forgetting of how sub-par that first movie to catapult this into our consciousness actually was. Maybe I'm over thinking this. Fuck it, it's Romero and in my eyes, when it comes to zombies, he can do no wrong.

Cloverfield Monster Fan Renderings

The "Cloverfield" movie comes out this weekend, but it already has had some screenings around the nation, and fans are now showing us what the monster will look like once the movie hits theaters this Friday. /Film has all of the pictures of fan submitted art, so head there if you want more pictures. I just pulled the best two, in my opinion.

Cloverfield Monster - First Look? (Spoiler?)

I'm very excited about the "Cloverfield" movie coming out this year. All the trailers and the commercials just keep getting me pumped about it. But, until now, we hadn't actually seen what the monster looks like. Leave it to the internets and its many spies to find that out for you though. What you see above is a toy. Wether it's a prototype for a "Cloverfield" toy-line . . . I don't know. But Movieweb is claiming that this is, indeed, the "Cloverfield" monster. Take it with a grain of salt, of course. I can't wait to see this in all of it's CG vs handheld camera action.

Opening Weekend Movies 11/16/07

Beowulf - This movie looks to be pretty good. The performance capture technology used here is a little less creepy than the last time Robert Zemeckis used it, so that's a plus. And there's also naked computer generated Angelina Jolie, which is also a welcome sight. But, the main reason I want to see this movie this weekend is not so much the movie, but rather a trailer for the upcoming J.J. Abrahms monster movie titled "Cloverfield". The studio is attaching that to the movie, and I'm a little psyched to see it. If I go watch this that is. I still have to convince the wife.

Love in the Time of Cholera - A love story, which just screams pondering chick flickedness to me. And yes, that's an actual word I just made up. So it's practically already in the next edition of the Webster's Dictionary. But, is this movie any good? Men with any amount of testosterone left in their bodies will avoid watching this, or might have to sacrifice watching this so they can use it as a bartering chip to watch something else later down the line that their "better half" would not want to go watch. I'm fortunate enough that my better half is not interested in this whatsoever.

Mr. Magorum's Wonder Emporium - What my wife might be interested in seeing this weekend is this movie, which stars Natalie Portman. She's got this weird crush on her, which I can understand. But the movie does not scream out to me as a must see. It does have that guy from "Arrested Development" in it, Jason Bateman, who is always funny, and Dustin Hoffman is in it as well. But I'd rather watch "Beowulf" this weekend. That's my pick.

Untitled JJ Abrams Movie gets "Furious" Poster

I am fairly intrigued by this new JJ Abrams project . . . which has something to do with a giant monster . . . thing . . . terrorizing New York. It could be Godzilla, or a cloud of black smoke (wouldn't "Lost" fans just flip out at that one). The working title of this movie is "Cloverfield" and while shooting in New York (pictures below) it's going by the name of "Cheese". Very secretive. I'm just hoping all the build up doesn't just fizzle out and we're subjected to crap. In the end, it could just be a giant, radioactive "Felicity", pissed off because she's not a big star anymore.
