Borderlands gets Zombies
"Borderlands" is a great game I haven't been able to get my hands on as of yet. But I will. It's like they grabbed an RPG and fused it with a FPS and added a few thousand guns for you to play with. And now, thanks to the developer, 2K Games, there's now some new downloadable content (DLC) available to buy to further your gaming experience. But, the frosting on the extra gameplay cake is . . . zombies! Check out the video. "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned" is out now, so whip out the credit cards and get it for either XBOX 360 or PS3.

Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Video
I can't wait for "Modern Warfare 2" to come out for the XBOX 360. I can easily predict that this game will own my life, much to my wife's chagrin, for the foreseeable future. But, just like the last game, "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare", I might not get my hands on this until December, when all the fucking kids that play the game over XBOX Live have had time to hone their skills to near impossible to beat. That's the only thing I hate about multiplayer games these days. If you don't get in on the first couple of days after the game comes out, you can't help but feel like a n00b when you finally catch up to everyone else. In any case, the game looks great. Bloody and fast-paced action is what you can expect. Even when the game lags and hosts need to be changed, the video shows a pretty easy transition to the action. I'm already sold on this game. What do the rest of you think?

Crackdown 2 Trailer
I really enjoyed "Crackdown" for the XBOX 360. The whole cops with superpowers doing whatever they want in a huge city environment was nothing short of fun. "Crackdown 2" is coming out soon, and it looks like we'll get to play around again with these characters, but instead of just fighting regular criminals, it looks like you'll be fighting genetic mutations this time around. Looks cool. The trailer doesn't show you much actual game play, but I'm sure more videos will be coming down the pike. Look out for them, and check out this game when it comes out. It should be good.

Revenge of the RROD!
Thankfully, this is not the only XBOX 360 that I have sitting around the house. I still have my original, twice RROD'ed, XBOX 360. And while I know I can get the Elite one fixed at no cost because of the extended warranty that Microsoft placed on the machine because of all the RROD failures, it still bothers me. What happens if my backup fails while my main machine is out for repair?!
When is Apple coming out with a gaming console already. I bet you that shit would never fail.

November 24th - 29th
Get ready for very little to no posts this week folks. It's going to be crazy around here, with rushing to meet deadlines and goals at work to ensure proper payout of bonuses and with the Thanksgiving holiday looming over the horizon . . . it's putting a lot of pressure on the time I have free to post silly things found on the interwebs. That and the new "Gears of War 2" videogame for the XBOX 360 is pwning my face right now. There are just too many great games that I haven't even cracked into, like the new "Call of Duty: World at War" game and the new "Fallout 3". Argh! I'd kill to have a few days off again. And I just had a vacation at the beginning of this month.
So, do what you gotta do to avoid withdrawal. There's a ton of shit in the archives. If you're a new reader, then it's almost like new material for you to go through. Sure, some of the pictures are gone and most of the videos might not work properly anymore. But there's still some good, quality stuff in there. Check it out. I'm done patting myself in the back now. Gotta get to work. Yes, it's not even 4:30 AM and I'm saying "gotta get to work".
Don't envy me.

The Downfall of the English Language Takes a Pee Break
Every so often, I run across something at work which just makes me think "goddamn G.E.D. is just not enough these days". The picture above is a flier for a fund-raising event at work that was posted above one of the urinals in the bathrooms, hence the title of this post, which is good. I have nothing against charitable donations and it doesn't sound like a terrible event either. You pay 5 bucks and you get to play the latest Madden game on either an XBOX 360 or a Playstation 3 for an hour or so. I don't have a problem with the inherent idea, it's just the execution of the flier that bothers me. And if it hasn't already stuck out like a sore thumb for you, then you might want to consider if you've become part of the problem.
So, right there, in the middle of the flier, in the largest font, someone decided to use the wrong "your". Classic mistake someone would expect to run into . . . in elementary school. But whomever took the time to make this flier isn't in elementary school. They're not even in high school. They've joined the work force, and this is what they're contributing. They're not bringing their A game. More like their D+ game.
But, I can't point it out at work. I had the unfortunate experience of bringing this up to someone who had made a rather nice flier for a baby shower a few months ago, and even though I was well meaning and complimented the flier and the hard work they must have put into it, the person was not all that receptive to my constructive criticism of their work, and just walked away, probably thinking I was a douchebag elitist . . . just because I know which words to use and when to use them.
So, from now on, I don't point this out anymore. I'd rather rant about it here. Where I can say whatever the fuck I want. But at least I'm saying it in a coherent and easy to follow format.

BAFW HQ Upgrades
There have been a couple of additions to the BAFW HQ as of late that I have been remiss in letting you fine readers about. I've just been too busy messing around with them. All of this is thanks to a recent influx in cash money (all legal, none from advertising . . . bums) to the ol' bank account. Let's get to the first one, that was a purchase born from necessity.
XBOX 360 Elite
My old, regular XBOX 360 got the RROD, again, and I had to send it off to Microsoft for repair. Since it's our main DVD machine in the living room, I kept arguing with my wife about purchasing an upgrade. Finally, after I told her how much I was making as bonus for the month of June, she relented, and agreed to let me purchase this dream machine. Right out of the box it's showing it's unmatched superiority. Crisp and clean 1080P via HDMI into my 42" LCD HD set is a thing of beauty. The 120 GB of hard drive space means I won't be running out of space for a long time. I was down to 2 GB's of space in my old XBOX 360. It's also a sleek black, which goes a little better with our black LCD set. The only downside . . . all of my saves for all of my games are in the old hard drive. I'm sure there's a way to transfer all of that from one machine to the other, but I'm lazy, so I'll most likely have to play through all of my games again. Achievements are still there though, so my 20,000+ points didn't disappear with my saved games.
LoveSac MovieSac
Don't call this bad boy a bean bag. There are no beans in this thing, just 65 lbs of shredded Durafoam, which molds and contorts to your body as you sit in it, creating one of the most comfortable pieces of furniture you will ever sit on. I love it. This is also one of the things I had been begging my wife for a couple of years to get. Since we got our IRS economic stimulus check in the mail last week, and being patriotic Americans that want to help out the economy, we headed out to the nearest LoveSac retailer and picked this up. Now my wife loves it, and it's hard for me to get some quality time with the MovieSac. It sits two people. I originally wanted to get the largest LoveSac available (appropriately named "The Big One" and sits 4 adults comfortably), but logistically speaking, it wouldn't have fit in the BAFW HQ anyway. This one is the third largest they offer, and it's barely fitting as is. Once we move to a larger domicile/HQ, we're definitely buying more, and possibly even getting some of the Sactionals they offer. Head on out to LoveSac.com for more of their products. I fully endorse them. BAFW-tested.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Up until recently, all of the "Call of Duty" games had been World War II based. They were pretty good, but if the 4th installment of the game series had treaded on that familiar territory, I would have checked out of the game completely. I'm really glad they went in a different direction with this one. If I remember correctly, I did some market research in late 2006 for "Call of Duty 3" for the XBOX 360. It didn't blow me away, but I did get to play an early build of the game and got a free game out of it. At that time, when they asked me what I didn't like about the game, I told them that I was totally tired of WWII first person shooters. If they could make a COD game either set in the present, or an alternate version of the present, with Nazi's if they wanted, I would totally be into it. I'm not saying I'm responsible for them making the shift in COD4, but it's at least interesting. Anyway, the video is all in-gameplay footage. As soon as I get my XBOX 360 back from Microsoft, I'm totally renting this game.

XBOX 360 Withdrawal
It's Sunday evening. I should be playing videogames. But, instead, I'm sitting here, writing about how much I miss my XBOX 360. Fuck. I dropped it off at UPS Friday morning. As it sat on their counter, I looked at it, longingly. I put my hand on one of the corners of the box that held my prized gaming possession. I patted the side, and, without actually vocalizing it, I wished it a safe trip to Texas.
Microsoft better get that fixed quick. I'm thinking about calling them up and see if they can compensate my somehow for the time I'm missing (or wasting) on my XBOX Live membership. I'm paid up through April of '08, so if they can add some time to the end of my subscription to make up for this, it would be great. Or some Microsoft points so I can use it on their Live Marketplace would suffice as well. Something, anything, to instill a new sense of confidence in Microsoft . . . but then again, it's Microsoft. They'd as easily laugh at me and just tell me to stop bitching. But if enough people make a fuss, it would be in their interest to keep the masses happy.
But if they offer me a Zune, it will be I who will laugh in their corporate faces. Zune . . . pfft.

XBOX 360 Boxed Up
Today, I send out my XBOX 360 for repair. I had the red-ring-of-death hit my most favorite gaming console at the beginning of the week, and Microsoft finally delivered the packaging needed to send it to their repair center in Texas. Why Texas? I don't know, but it seems to be a pretty popular place to get your shit repaired, specially if it has to do something with technology. I remember the last couple of times that I had to send in my Apple iBook (before I got the intel-based MacBook) for repairs for a faulty motherboard, it went to Texas as well. I don't know what they do over there. Maybe strap it on to a mechanical bull and the rest is Texas-magic. But whatever they do, I hope they can get it back to me before the 4th of November. Partly because I miss playing games, and Gamefly just delivered "Beautiful Katamari", a game both my wife and I had been dying to play since we downloaded the demo, but also because I will be going out of town for a week, and when they return the XBOX 360, they need a signature to confirm delivery. If I'm not here, I can't sign for it. And that would be pretty fucking inconvenient if they have to send it back to Texas because I wasn't around. But, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hopefully it can be back here and hooked up within the next couple of weeks.
It might be a good idea to call up Microsoft to see if they can arrange a delivery either before or after I come back. That's something worth thinking about. But now, I must venture out into the world so I can find me one of those UPS stores, so I can send the broken bitch to get fixed.

Halo 3 - Bypassing the Hype
As far as my first impressions go? I've only played through the first 2 levels in the campaign mode. So far, it's looking pretty promising. I was a bit lost at the beginning, but that's just because I never finished the "Halo 2" campaign. It actually bored me. I played the shit out of the multiplayer, but "Halo 2's" story just felt stale. It seems that Bungie took note, and they have amped up the action and the enemies, which is making for a couple of great levels so far.
This weekend, I will try to join in on that whole campaign that Microsoft and Bungie have going on. That's when I'll jump into the multiplayer. Until then, I'll take my time with the game, enjoy what I can, before I devote entirely too much time to playing with other people over XBOX Live. I'm going to have to buy a case of Visine though. My reticular humidity retention is not what it used to be. I've only played the game for an hour at most and my eyes felt like I had just ended a non-stop 8 hour stretch of playing time. I used to do that back when the first "Halo" came out. Oh . . . if only I still had the eyes a 22 year old.

Just Your Typical Sunday
Yesterday was one of the rare occasions when I have a Sunday off, so the wife and I spent the day together. Nothing much in the way of super interesting things throughout the early part of the day. We woke up a bit on the late side, so we did not have breakfast, but ended up getting some lunch at this place called "The Oinkster" in Eagle Rock. She had a cheeseburger and fries (french/freedom) and I had the pastrami with fries. Heather was not all that impressed with her burger, but I enjoyed the pastrami. It is not served as salty as I'm used to eating it, but it was good. A bit on the pricey side though. Our meals ended up being just over 20 bucks, and I don't know how much you might make, but around here, for fast food . . . that's maybe a little bit much.
Next up on the agenda was to drive the route that my wife would have to take today to go to her first day orientation for the new job she just took on. A job which I referred her to at the bank, which means that 6 months from now, if she's still employed and doing well, I get a $500.00 bonus. I don't have a doubt in my mind that she won't do good. She's bright, hard working, and great with customers. And no, we won't be telling you which branch she's going to be working in. Partly because of privacy, but also because we don't work in a branch. Not all bank employees work in branches you know. Actually, the branch people are all idiots, and we kind of look down upon them. I don't care if they wear shirts and ties to work and we go in with jeans and t-shirts to work . . . they're all a bunch of idiots who don't know what the fuck they're doing. And that goes for every bank, not just the one we work for.
So, back to our Sunday. After that, we went to Pasadena, to my mother's house, to hang out in her pool for a couple of hours. Since we don't have a pool of our own, and it was close to 100 degrees yesterday, it was the only logical thing to do. We hung out there, had a little watermelon, chatted with my brother, step-father and mother about this and that, and took off after a quick shower (to get the chlorine off of me . . . my skin hates chlorine). We headed back home, but since it was still hot as balls, we took off for the nearest Best Buy to escape the heat and pick up a couple of items.
We didn't really need anything, but we wanted to test out if my wife's old employee discount still worked. She quit Best Buy for the job at the bank 2 weeks ago, and since we needed an aux-cable to hook up her iPod Shuffle to her Mazda 3's stereo, we thought we'd check out the price at least. She picked up a Dynex (Best Buy's brand) that retailed for just over 13 bucks. We took it over to a nearby computer, she keyed in her employee number, and the computer read back to us . . . . $1.23. Yes, one dollar and twenty-three cents. So, we took the cable, and walked around the DVD aisles for a bit, looking for something we had not yet seen. We settled for "Talladegah Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby", which was retailing for $19.99. We took our items to the register, she told the check out girl it would be an employee purchase, and lo and behold, it worked. We walked out of there paying 21 dollars and change, including tax, for something that a normal person walking in would have had to pay close to 40 bucks. Take that Best Buy!
Feeling a little hungry, and seeing a Costco next to the Best Buy, we figured we'd get some hot dogs and a soft drink for dinner. Costco is great for a cheap meal in a pinch, and since neither of us had any cash (who carries paper money anymore?), we raided my change cup for some funds, and managed to wrangle $3.25 in quarters, nickles and dimes. I felt like an old lady when it came to paying. But, that's not really the memorable part. As we were waiting in line, my wife leans over and whispers in my ear: "Look at the girl to your right". I do, and as I'm trying to figure out what she's talking about . . . I see it. A nipple, poking out of the top of this chick's tank top, in plain sight. And she does not realize it. It's like that nipple had lost all sensation on it. Her boyfriend walked up a couple of minutes later, and both my wife and I looked away. I think he let her know, because when we payed and walked away with our hotdogs and drinks, my wife told me that the nipple was no longer in sight.
After eating our dinner, we went home, played a little X Box 360 arcade games (she played the original Sonic the Hedgehog and I played Golden Axe . . . blasts from the past man) and watched the movie. During the movie, while going to the bathroom (not at the same time) we discovered a 5-legged spider living in our bathroom. We have no idea where it came from, or when it became disabled, but I named it "Gimpy" and let him stay there in his corner. We had to call it a night shortly after watching "Entourage" because Heather had to be at work at 8:30 AM (I just talked to her . . . she got there 45 minutes early) and that pretty much ended our Sunday.

Recent Developments AKA Excuses
Yeah. I know. It's been a while since I've regularly posted something here. That's because I've been pretty busy this past week. With 6 days of straight work because of the fourth of July, I'm finally having a little time to just relax. Of course, I didn't post anything worthwhile today because I was stuck pretty much half of the day in a Mazda dealership.
My wife bought herself a Mazda 3. Which she had wanted for a long time. Her previous car (a '91 Ford Escort) needed to be replaced a couple of years ago. A non-functioning air conditioning system is just no good during this whole global warming thing that's going on lately. But, now she has a proper car, which has a pretty decent gas mileage per gallon. And a fully functioning air conditioning system. Plus, she got the car at the price we wanted. Not the price the dealer wanted to charge us. Which is a pretty big victory if you've gone through the whole car buying process.
So yeah, we've been a tad on the busy side lately. And we've been reading a lot lately. Christopher Moore is coming highly recommended by us right about now. Read "The Stupidest Angel". If you read this blog, you should like that book as well.
We're so busy lately we haven't seen "Ratatouille" and "Transformers" yet. Which are both vying for our movie dollars right now. Maybe when we get an influx of cash this weekend, we'll take a couple of hours to watch either one (or both of those) movies.
Oh, and then there's the X Box 360 game called "Dirt", which dominated my eyes and thumbs for a solid week. It's on its way back to Gamefly now, but check it out if you have the time. I got me 975 out of 1000 achievement points in that game. That's 48 out of 49. I don't want to toot my own horn, but that's not too shabby.
So, maybe this week I'll post something about something or other. Maybe. If we're not too busy.

Get Your Game On, Trailer-Style
I have an affinity for videogames. Just something that I grew up with, all the way from my Atari 800XL (the one with the keyboard) through my 8-Bit Nintendo system, to my Super Nintendo and then Sega Genesis. Those were my fondest consoles to date, but that does not mean that my flirtations with the original PS unit and the subsequent dealings with the X Box and the X Box 360 have not been anything but enjoyable. So today, I bring you a couple of game trailers that you should keep an eye out for. First up, Alone in the Dark. For the PS3 & X Box 360. It looks amazing. I really like the music towards the end. Is that a Chinese chorus?
Also included in this post is not so much a trailer but a leaked video of some multiplayer Halo 3 action, still in Beta. This is what the lucky ones who managed to get into the beta testing will most likely be playing in less than a month. The Zanzibar map is a favorite of mine from the Halo 2 game, and it looks pretty amazing here. I also like the new HUD. A couple of new weapons are seen here . . . if you can make them out through the poor quality of the video. Sorry people, it is YouTube. Digging the quad-wheeler.
Suck on those videos and I will post some more as the weeks go by.

Party Animal
I had a party in honor of my birthday this past Saturday, and let me tell you, if I remembered everything that happened, it would have marked my most memorable party . . . ever. Oh, you didn't get an invitation? Dude, that's the last time I ever rely on carrier pigeons to deliver my party invites. But, I bet you're wondering what happened. Let me recap what I can remember.
The party started slowly. The Sal showed up at around 4 PM because he wanted to play "Lost Planet: Extreme Condition" on the XBOX 360. Which is fine, we went out to get some Greek food at Daphne's by the old Earthlink offices and then went back home to wait for the other party guests. They started to trickle in at around 8 or 9 pm, I'm not sure. We were not sure who was going to show up and who wasn't, so we planned big. We had bought an enormous bottle of Bacardi at Costco and an equally enormous bottle of cheap Vodka at Trader Joe's. That and assorted juices and soda kept us going through most of the night.
The guests did bring more booze with them. A couple of our friends came with some Dos XX's beer and a very elaborate Tequila gift set, which still remains un-opened in our kitchen. It just looks so fancy it intimidates me.
Enough about the booze talk. We fired up the XBOX 360 and popped in a couple of DVD's of music videos from Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Chris Cunningham that kept the TV watchers mesmerized and the minglers entertained. Then, when we were all out of videos, we accessed the hard drive on the 360 and played the stored music. The music player on the 360 has a visualizer that throws out a trippy light show for you which is cool on it's own, but when you've been drinking, it transports you to another dimension. This would have been cool on its own, but I had set up my XBOX Live Vision Camera on top of the TV, and when the light show comes on, if you walk in front of the camera, it captures your image and super-imposes it on the screen as a shadowy figure, so that tripped everyone out when it was first discovered and continued to entertain our guests pretty much for the rest of the night. Yes, our friends are easily entertained.
I laughed a lot, got a lap dance from my wife, and was apparently on fire for a few seconds. Which, btw, marks the first time ever I've caught on fire. I wish I could tell you what happened, but I don't remember much about that time period. All I know is that I was fine and next thing I know my wife's friend is patting my shirt. The shirt is fine though, if you were wondering, and I did not sustain any burns. But there's a picture of me LMAO'ing about it just after it happened. Or at least I think that's what I was laughing at. As I said earlier, I don't quite remember much.
The kickback ended at around 2ish, without a single noise complaint from our neighbors. We don't usually throw big parties, or parties whatsoever, so I guess the figured that this one time they would let it go. I did speak to the cops the morning after, but on a totally unrelated topic. And no, the fuzz was not looking for me.

New Job Disclaimer
I start my new job tomorrow with one of America's largest (finest is still up to debate) financial instutions. No more technical support issues for me. What awaits is 6 weeks of what I can assume will be some sort of intensive training. Do I need it? I don't know. Possibly. Whatever the case, I want to go into my new position with all the preparation that I might need. Why do I bring this up? Well, in the past, my jobs have been pretty lax on internet policies. I was pretty much able to run around and do whatever the hell I wanted to. Production was never a problem, so my direct supervisors always let it slide that I was blogging on the job.
With this new job, I don't think this will be the case . . . until I find my niche. My little comfort zone which will allow me the internet creature comforts I have become so accustomed to. So, this might mean that posts are not going to be made 3 - 5 times a day like in the past few weeks. I've been on a veritable blogging binge as of late, so expect that to cool off. I will still be able to post something in the morning. My new shift starts at noon every day, so I can let you guess at what time I get out of work. Hint . . . it's not that early.
So, I wish I could say that's why the "Musically Inclined Mondays" is not up . . . but, no. I'm just lazy. And . . . it's President's Day. Gotta respect the holiday. Which I have, by sitting around in my underpants playing XBOX 360 all day long. Where's the wife you ask? Oh, the horrors of retail sales. She's getting close ending another day of work over at the national electronic goods purveyor chain, at which point, she will come home so we can watch some "Heroes" TiVo'd.
So, what was this about? Oh yeah, explanations and excuses. Got it? Good.

Left 4 Dead
I was pretty disappointed by the fact that "Dead Rising" would not play on my XBOX 360. But, I'm not going to be a cry-baby about it. I don't have an HDTV set, so I probably would not have been able to read the text that looks smudgy on standard resolution television sets. But, a new zombie game is coming down the pipe. It's called "Left 4 Dead", and it's from Turtle Rock Studios. It uses the Source engine for the graphics, and you can check their still-in-construction site here for future updates like game-play videos and character profiles. You know, the standard stuff these sites usually have. If you want to see the first official trailer for the game, head out to Gamespot's page for the game to access a pretty cool video. I just hope this makes its way to the 360. Despite some problems some users might have had with "Dead Rising", it still sold pretty well. Which means there's a market for zombie games on consoles. Get cracking Turtle Rock Studios. Port that shit over so us console players can get a taste.
