Newest and Oldest The Crazies Trailer(s)

I've seen a couple of trailers for "The Crazies" remake. This third one that's embedded into this post seems to be the most effective, while not giving away too much of the movie. The movie is a remake of the exactly titled: "The Crazies", by George A. Romero. Breck Eisner is directing this iteration of the movie and that's Timothy Olyphant in the lead role. The movie is coming out this year, so look out for it. For comparison purposes, I've also included (below) the original's trailer from 1973. See which one you like better.

Hello 2010 & 2009 Holiday Wrap Up

Yes, BAFW has been on a sort of hiatus while I was on vacation the last couple of weeks of December 2009. What was I doing? Pretty much enjoying some much needed family time. Christmas came and went and it was better than last year. So that's a plus. My wife told me she didn't need to return/exchange a single present I gave her for Christmas, which is a rousing success for me, since in the past I've gotten her things that have left her scratching her head wondering if the gift was really for her.

And don't get me started on what she got me. I won't list everything, but she got me comics, videogames, movies and some other geek-related goodness. That woman knows me well.

After Christmas, we ventured to Las Vegas for the third time this year, but this time, we got comp'ed rooms and we came back without any of our gambling money, but all of our entertainment money was still intact. So, it's not exactly breaking even, but we had a great time there. Set us up with massages at a spa and get us some penny slots and we're in heaven in Sin City.

We didn't stick around for New Year's in Las Vegas. I've done that a couple of times and it's never been great. Just crowded. And drunky. We found our own crowded and drunky spot here in Los Angeles at my wife's friend's work party. Open bar and free food guaranteed our presence. And for the most part, the party was fun, but we did leave before midnight. Why? We felt like it. And we're non-conformists . . . OK, we just got tired and wanted to get back home.

Other than that, not much else happened. I've been back at work (ugh) since Monday of this week, not really loving it, but I realize it's a necessary evil. I should start posting again within the next couple of days. Don't worry, trailers and funny videos will make their way onto BAFW soon enough. 'Til then, later.

Hit Girl Gets Red Band Kick Ass Trailer

Come April 2010, everyone's going to be talking about "Kick Ass". Being currently touted as the most irresponsibly violent movie in recent history, it puts children (or young adolescents) into extremely violent situations with some truly entertaining results. I'm going to watch this. Specially now, since I saw the 11 year old character from the movie, "Hit Girl", wailing on some mafia dudes with a visceral finesse usually found in much older assassins. Check out the red band trailer (I know, she says "fucking with you") for more severed limbs and bullet holes than you can shake a stick at.

Iron Man 2 Trailer

Ummm . . . Holy shit. Can it be possible to make a better "Iron Man" movie? From the looks of the trailer above it's looking like a damn good possibility. Looks like everyone is back for some more iron-clad goodness (except for the guy replaced by Don Cheadle) and the new villian, Whiplash, played by Mickey Rourke comes off appropriately menacing and badass. Lots of cool moments in this trailer. Can't wait for 2010.

Edit: Oh, and I totally forgot to mention the jaw-dropping "War Machine" sequence in this trailer and the slight glimpse at Scarlett Johansson dressed up as Russian covert operative and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent "Black Widow". How could I forget.

Robin Hood Trailer

I've seen many a Robin Hood movie. Now, I guess I have to see another one. Ridley Scott directs this one and Russell Crowe has been cast as the anti-hero in question. It's a little reminiscent of their previous period piece collaboration, "Gladiator". Is that a bad thing? Not to me. I loved that movie. Here's hoping that "Robin Hood" comes out truly badass and hits its target in 2010. Look out for this movie. In the meantime, check out the trailer.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice Trailer

Since magic is all the rage these days, Disney is dipping into the dark arts and pulling "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" out of it's hat. Directed by Jon Turtletaub (who might or might not be turtle'y enough for your turtle club) and starring Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, and Alfred Molina, it doesn't look like it has much in common with the "Fantasia" short that might have inspired it, but it still looks decent enough to watch thanks to super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer throwing tons of money at this project. The trailer looks pretty slick and, despite the presence of Nick Cage, pretty darn good. Scarlett Johansson is Black Widow

"Iron Man 2" is gearing up for a 2010 release, but already a stream of hype has been funneling out to the media. I could have posted the picture of Iron Man and War Machine, back to back, but I think you'd much rather see the pictures of Scarlett Johansson, which will be playing Russian spy "Black Widow", low and close to the floor. In fact, if she spends the whole movie walking around on all fours, you won't hear any complaints from me. One more pic below. Check out the movie when it comes out. If it's even half as good as the first "Iron Man" movie, then it's gonna be better than most films this year.

Day One Trailer

I do enjoy a post-apocalyptic yarn from time to time. That's why, this trailer for NBC's "Day One" is looking mighty freaking cool to me. The video is not that great when it comes to quality, but the ideas and concept shine through anyway. What at first looks like a re-hashed meteor strike is then substituted with something more sinister. Check your local listings for this one. It's probably not going to start with the regular fall season of 2009, so look out for it mid-season 2010. It's going to feel like a long wait, but to me, it looks like it might just be worth it.

Update: So, the first video was killed by NBC . . . let's see how long this one lasts.
