Good Cop, Baby Cop

See more Will Ferrell videos at Funny or Die

If you remember "Landlord", and you liked it, then you'll most likely enjoy Funny or Die's latest Pearl the Baby offering: "Good Cop, Baby Cop". It also features Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and it's also Pearl's last baby performance. I guess when you make fat stacks in the internet shorts business, you can afford to retire early. Check out the video, and pray that you never run into Pearl in a dark alley on the wrong side of the law.

Opening Weekend Movies - 2/29/2008

Semi-Pro - Is there any doubt in your mind that you won't be waking up to this movie Monday being the #1 movie in America? At least the #1 comedy in America. Everything Will Ferrell does lately just ends up being loved by the mass populace. To tell you the truth, while this movie looks like it could illicit a laugh or two from me, it's not enough to make me want to go see it. But I'll rent it when it comes out on DVD, kind of like "Blades of Glory", which I almost rented last weekend. Almost . . . I just couldn't get myself to rent an ice-skating movie. "The Cutting Edge"* just killed the whole sub-genre for me.

The Other Boleyn Girl - Period peaces bore me to tears. But this movie has Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson in it. I'm conflicted. Those are two of the hottest, screen-melting women on the planet. And they're stuck in this movie where they play sisters? Couldn't they be lesbian lovers? Only in a perfect world. Oh yeah, Eric Bana is in this as well. Did I mention that he cinematically beds both of them. Did I also mention that I know hate Eric Bana.

Penelope
- Look at how ambiguous the Yahoo! movie page's description for this film is:
Christina Ricci is a woman suffering from a "curse" who sets out to free herself of a life-long bad luck streak and find her true self.
The "curse" is that she has a pig's snout for a nose. I think "Bubble Boy"** is a deeper movie than this. That was another movie about a voyage of self-discovery. But, I guess it could be argued that, even with a prosthetic pig nose, Christina Ricci is still hotter than Jake Gyllenhaal.

*When was the last time you heard of the movie "The Cutting Edge" . . . whoa, hello nostalgia.

**"Bubble Boy" rocks!!

Opening Weekend Movies - 11/09/07

Fred Claus - I guess Vince Vaughn wants to have himself some "Elf" money, just like Will Ferrell. Vince is funny enough, but this movie, which also stars Paul Giamatti, just looks a little dull. And is it me, or is it one month too early for Christmas movies? I know that the retailers are getting a jump on Black Friday this year by having early sales and what-not, but are movies also throwing themselves into the pre-Christmas breech one month too soon? Just out of principle, I'm going to avoid this movie.

Lions for Lambs - Robert Redford directs this movie, starring Meryll Streep and Tom Cruise in a story where lives are intertwined by war. While this might not be my current cup of tea, it does sound somewhat interesting. Something I might want to watch on DVD possibly. It's not getting my entertainment dollar just yet, but I'm going to keep this on the back burner in case I get bored one day and have nothing else to do but kill a couple of hours with a decent DVD.

P2 - While I originally thought that a parking garage horror thriller movie was a bad idea, I read Analog Medium's little write up on the movie, and they seem to be excited about it. I might need to rethink wether or not I want to see this in theaters now. Shit, thanks guys. They did have a point when they said that "The Hills Have Eyes" is a great re-make. Who knows, maybe there is terror to be had in a parking lot. I just hope it doesn't have to do much with keying people's cars. As a victim of such a heinous hate crime, it would hit too close to home.

Eva Longoria Sex Tape

Hmm . . . I had heard about this . . . but, just like that Meg White sex tape, this one is not for real. It's actually for a website called "FunnyOrDie.com", which I'm pretty sure it's run by Will Ferrell and some of his comedian friends. Oh well, I didn't want to see that Mexican lawn gnome getting it on with some dude anyway.

Box Office Report - Didn't See it Coming

Disturbia - Never underestimate the pull that Shia LeBoef has with the tween crowd. I mean, who cares about him other than all the "Even Stevens" fans who keep watching those re-runs on the Disney Channel. Sure, he's an OK actor. But enough to keep this movie at #1 for two weeks straight? I don't think so. America and I are not on speaking terms right now.

The Invisible - Guess no one was either interested in this or people are just saving up for next weekend, when the first major blockbuster of the year should be released. This rather forgettable mystery was, indeed, invisible to viewers who passed this up.

Next
- Nick Cage. When will you learn that it's not the weird haircuts that you sport in your movies that draws in the crowds, but rather the caliber of the stories you're acting in. Take some time to re-evaluate your career man. When a big "action" movie opens up with just over 7 million, that's not even enough to pay for the advertising campaign. I guess he didn't see this coming. Haha, get it, because the movie is about a guy that can see into the future. *sigh* Why do I have to explain myself to you people.

Fracture - Yawn. Isn't it Anthony Hopkins' nap time? Someone get him his puree'd steak and potatoes and an extra thick straw. The man has to watch his "Matlock" for crying outloud.

Blades of Glory
- It should be a crime for a movie that looks as ridiculous as this to make over 100 million dollars. But there's no denying the allure of Will Ferrell. That motherfucker's funny. But is he really 100 million dollars funny? I guess America has decided that already.

Special #6 Entry

Hot Fuzz
- This movie is performing alright despite the fact that it has those silly English accents and it's been ignored by pretty much the whole of the mainstream American public. We watched this the weekend it opened and had a great time. You should really take your time to find this movie and watch it in the theaters. By the power of Greyskull . . . .

Will Ferrell Short

wmode="transparent" data="http://funnyordie.com/v1/flvideo/fodplayer.swf?channel=0|1|2|5|0&rating=2.5&ratedby=1&canrate=&VID=74&file=http://funnyordie.com/v1/flvideo/74.flv&autoStart=true">

This is too funny. Not because Will Ferrell is in it, but rather because I find kids cursing to be the ultimate paramount in comedy. Check this video out. Oh, and Ferrell's got a mean whi-fro.

Edit: I don't know why the video player is not showing up on my computer when I publish, but I'll get to the bottom of it. In the mean time, check out the link to the video here and fall in love with "Pearl".

Edit #2: Ok . . . So, it works on Safari, but Firefox, the browser I was originally using, does not show up with the video. But, chances are you got here with Internet Explorer . . . in which case . . . um, sorry for the spyware. Yeah, you should definitely get yourself a Mac.

PS. I'm kidding about the spyware, but I'm pretty sure you were fuh-reaking out right now, huh? Don't worry, it's just a backdoor trojan.

Box Office Report - Easter Suck-day

Blades Of Glory - For the second time in a row, the Will Ferrell/That guy from "Napoleon Dynamite" ice-skating movie takes the top spot. While there are funny people involved, it's not something that appeals to me. But, nevermind what I think America. Go watch this while other movies that deserve this spot flounder and end up making it harder for true quality films to be released instead of cookie-cutter crap like this.

Meet the Robinsons - Speaking of cookie-cutter crap . . . what's the recipe for semi-box office success these days? Oh yeah, sub-par CG-animated pieces of shit like this movie. Has Disney officially killed it's hand-drawn animation studio? All that talent that brought us such classic animated films like "The Jungle Book" and "Bambi" has turned into a Pixar knock-off. Why did Disney even buy Pixar? They should just let them handle the CG, and they should return to what made Disney . . . well, Disney.

Are We Done Yet - This is the most surprising debut of the weekend. What the fuck kind of world is it that we're living in when the sequel to a crappy Ice Cube movies opens with 15 million dollars. Are pigs flying? I looked outside my window right now and Los Angeles hasn't frozen over. So why people . . . why did you all collectively decide to go watch this instead of the next movie on the list.

Grindhouse - I made it a point to go watch this over the weekend. Sunday at 4:30 pm, in La Crescenta's UA theater ('cause I had a gift card), the wife and I went to go watch this. There were probably 20 other people in the theater that could easily seat over 400. All film geniuses like us. And then, for the next 3+ hours we were in cinematic bliss. Everything from "Planet Terror"s stylized and splashy gore to "Death Proof"s energetic and raw car chases/crashes was perfect. Even Tarantino's often wordy written word came through just right. And, both films had great "get the fuck out!" moments. I don't want to spoil anything for you, since, taking a look at their 11 million dollar opening weekend, you probably didn't watch it. Shame on you. It is your responsibility to watch "Grindhouse". Otherwise, it's just un-American.

The Reaping - Now this is more like it. Crappy theological-themed movies of the month always go after the good stuff. Not that I have any ill-will towards this. As far as movies dealing with supernatural biblical mumbo-jumbo, this looks way better than that Exorcist prequel that came out a couple of years ago (pick which version, because there were 2). But, Hillary Swank kind of kills it for me. Now, put Angela Lansbury in that role and she would definitely get to the bottom of it. In one hour. Just in time for my early bird senior citizen dinner. I like to digest while I watch my "Matlock".
