Foot-long Cheeseburgers - Finally?!

I didn't say much about the KFC "Double Down" "sandwich" when I saw it, because it's not a sandwich if no bread is involved, and I didn't think it would start a trend in Americans eating worse than they already do. But then, I spotted this on the internets. It looks like Carl's Jr. has stepped up to the "let's make Americans fatter" (dinner) plate and they're now offering foot-long cheeseburgers. This is no joke, looks like they're testing this concept out right now, but look forward a rash of massive coronaries hitting your town sometime soon.

Machete Trailer

I have to say, I enjoyed the 5 de Mayo version of this movie's trailer better than this mainstream one, but that's not to say that the trailer doesn't make the movie look like a couple of hours worth of kick-ass. Not to mention a terrific ensemble cast that's lead by the criminally marginally used Danny Trejo. Finally, a starring role for the man that used to wash my father-in-law's laundry in the pen (true story). Check out the video and make an appointment to cut into "Machete" when it hits theaters later this year.

Lindsay Lohan Sentenced to Jail

Yes, that's Lindsay Lohan, displaying emotions that she somehow doesn't know how to express while acting, but I guess they're warranted, since the California Judicial System just sentenced her to 90 days in jail. And here I was losing hope in our judicial system, after my recent stint in jury duty. Man would I have loved to serve on that jury. But, alas, the Lohan drug fueled menace is off the streets and headed for lock-up. And why did the judge sentence her? Aside from common sense, take a look at her probation report courtesy of Radar Online:

Lindsay Lohan was taking a powerful cocktail of amphetamines and the powerful painkiller Dilaudid during her probation period, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.
The shocking list is contained in the 24-year-old’s probation report, which was given to a Beverly Hills court Tuesday. It is expected to be released publicly Wednesday.
Lohan, 24, who was sentenced to 90 days in jail for violating the terms of her probation, was also taking Adderall – an amphetamine used as part of a treatment program to control symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The actress was also taking a combination of other drugs, including anti-depressants Zoloft and Trazodone. She also takes Nexium, which is used to treat acid reflux.
They were all legally prescribed to Lohan, RadarOnline.com has been told. The drugs were detected in the Mean Girls star’s system after she began random drug testing on May 26.
The combination had the potential to “kill her” when mixed with alcohol, said one source.

And that's just prescriptions, who knows what else she was doing before she got on probation. While I don't feel sorry for Lohan, I do hope she takes this time to reevaluate her life. She's got 90 days to realize she's hit rock-bottom.

Let Me In Trailer

"Let Me In" is the American remake of the superb Swedish vampire movie "Let the Right One In", which in itself was adapted from a novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist (you should take a few days to check that out as well). Now that you know all of that, let's just say that it looks pretty true to the original, but in ways, different than the original. Mostly due to the casting and a spoiler I won't reveal from the original. But the casting will have a huge impact on that, so until I get to see the movie, I'll keep it pretty hush hush. Unless you've seen the original yourself, you'll know what I'm talking about. Check out the trailer. The movie is directed by the guy that brought us "Cloverfield" and stars the Hit-Girl from "Kick-Ass".

Rock Band au Natural

I have no problem with women playing videogames in the nude. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing my wife playing "Fairytale Fights" totally naked. That would be thoroughly entertaining. And this video was enjoyable for the first couple of seconds until you realize that there are children in the background. Most likely this naked woman's children. I don't want to tell anyone how to raise their kids, but this has got to be on the "don't do this" list.

Predators International Trailer

"Predators" should be stalking your local cineplex pretty soon. I've seen a couple of trailers for it, but this international one is by far the best one of the bunch. I'm really liking the cast, even Adrian Brody looks tough as nails in this, specially when they drop him from low orbit straight into the jungle. That's some effective visuals right there. Let's hope Robert Rodriguez knocks this one out of the park and it doesn't end up looking like one of his "Spy Kids" movies.

Oh, and Danny Trejo is in this one, so that automatically guarantees our ticket purchases. That is one bad ass mutha . . .

International Scott Pilgrim Vs The World Trailer

I'm pretty excited about Edgar Wright's new movie coming out, "Scott Pilgrim Vs The World". If you've seen any of Wright's previous work as a director, you should know why. "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" are some of the funniest movies ever committed to film. So, this one should be a riot as well. From the looks of the trailer, it packs not only the funny, but a ton of cartoony action as well, which suits it well because it's true to the comic book source material.

We still have to wait a little under 2 months to see this movie. It comes out August 13th (my wife's birthday, great present Edgar!) and you can bet that we're gonna be there when it opens. Check out the trailer and get excited.

The Walking Dead Photographed

"The Walking Dead", arguably one of the best zombie comic books out there, has been in production over at AMC, the fine studio that brought everyone "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" and they also have Frank Darabont on the job, the genius behind "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Mist". It's currently shooting on location in Atlanta, Georgia, and these pictures were taken there. It's looking pretty cool. I can't wait to see these zombies shambling around on my television. I've always thought that the only thing missing from TV was more zombie action. Here are a couple of more pictures from the set. Enjoy.

This last picture is of Andrew Lincoln, who is playing the part of Rick Grimes, the protagonist from the comics. This looks just like the comics. I love that. Please make sure you watch the 6 episode run they've got when it hits AMC so we can get more of this kind of programming.

Mortal Kombat Gets Hard R Test

This is an interesting video. I've seen it described as "Mortal Kombat: Rebirth Trailer" on the Youtube, but that's not really what it is. What you're looking at right now is an actual test of what an R-rated Mortal Kombat movie could look like. The director, who from what I understand previously directed the "Fame" remake, shot this to see if there would be any interest in the studio-system for something like this. I really hope so. The action seen here is pretty amazing. Not Ong-Bak amazing, but definitely better than previous Mortal Kombat movies.

Check it out so it can get a ton of hits on the internet. The more this little video gets around, the more likely it is that we will see a Se7en'ish looking Mortal Kombat movie in the near future.

Transitions and Explanations

I realize I've been completely ignoring the good ol' BAFW since February of this year. Just to reassure the one or two readers that might have been following this blog on a semi-regular basis: nothing terrible happened to me. I didn't break all my fingers or lose the ability to string words together to form sentences that in turn form paragraphs that turn into postings.

What I've been going through is a period of transition. As some of you might have known already, when I was writing regularly, I was employed by a bank. That relationship ended in February of this year. In case anyone was wondering, I worked at the time for Bank of America. And for the most part, despite being a thankless and totally unrewarding job, it payed the bills and I didn't hate it. Well, there were days when I wish I could personally knock on some of their customers' doors to give them a piece of my mind due to the way people tend to treat complete strangers over a phone line. I like to call that "telephonic courage". Some of the things Bank of America customers said (and in some cases, yelled at me) over the phone I've always wondered if, being face to face with them, they would have acted in the same manner.

I was with Bank of America for 3 full years. If you were to track down any of my managers they would have told you that I was hard working, results-oriented and goal driven. During my first year as a customer service representative for the Checking and Savings dept I was awarded with their prestigious "Associate of the Month" award in May of 2007. Mind you that I had only started working there around the end of February of the same year, and at the time, Bank of America's training program lasted 2 months. So right out of training I was already, in their eyes, great. I continued to do good work in that dept, always ranked in the top ten amongst my peers. This is no hyperbole.

I transferred in November of 2007 to the bank's credit card dept. There, I worked early to mid-stage to late-stage collections. I hit every single goal they presented me with, not missing bonus a single month, and, with the efforts of my team-mates, saved the bank millions (yes, millions) of dollars in potential credit card losses. Even when the whole housing market crashed and people were getting laid off, I was still able to save a large number of accounts and I actually helped a ton of people either repair their credit with reduced payment programs or offered them a way out of their debt with very generous settlements that ranged in the 20 - 35% of their total debt with the bank.

In September of 2009 I felt like I needed a change, and an opportunity arose in the then fledgling new Mortgage dept that was created when the Countrywide and Bank of America merger was completed. I didn't spend much time in this dept, since my working relationship with the bank ended the following February, but while I was there, I felt like I was doing some pretty excellent customer service. Not a day went by when at least a couple of customers thanked me profusely for being so helpful.

But, my time with the bank ended on a sour note. I made a misstep. And I willingly admit that it was a lapse in judgment. If I hadn't done this, I would not be typing up this blog entry right now. What ended my career with the bank? Did I steal customers' social security numbers? Did I steal money from the bank? Was I giving out false information to customers? Nope. None of that. This one silly little mistake prompted Bank of America to just cut me loose without considering all the good things I had done for the financial institution. So . . . what did I do??

I hung up on an irate and verbally abusive customer. A customer that from the start not only was mad at the bank for whatever reason, but for some reason decided to attack me as a person, completely unwarranted. Now, when something like this happens, a customer service rep is supposed to get a manager and pass the call along, but I don't know if I just had had enough by then and maybe that's what made me ignore protocol, but after repeatedly asking the customer to please stop verbally attacking me, I just hung up. He called back, got in touch with a manager, and pretty much told them I was rude and condescending and that I had hung up on him because of his Indian accent. Total bullshit. I hung up on him because he was an asshole and he deserved to be hung up on.

Big mistake I guess. The following day, I get pulled out of my cubicle by the Unit Manager who starts his interview with me about the incident by saying these words that are forever etched into my psyche (and I'm quoting you Hugo Ayala, if you have a problem with this, you can drop me a note in the comments section, that is, if you're not too busy trying to look like you're a member of the Buena Vista Social Club): "What made you think you had the right to hang up on a customer". As soon as he said this, my heart started pounding. I knew I was in deep shit. I tried to explain what happened, even went so far as to ask for clemency and practically (short of getting on my knees and kissing this bastard's feet) begged for my job. Mostly out of fear of the uncertainty that comes along with unemployment in an economy where the unemployment percentages are in the double digits.

I found out the next day that they decided, between all of them, to let me go. I fell into a slight depression. A man needs to work. If I can't provide for my family, then what good am I to them? At the time though, I thought that this was "end-of-the-world" bad. That I was going to lose everything. My wife and I would be out there, living in the streets. But, of course, that's not how it turned out. And to tell you the truth, getting fired from Bank of America is one of the best things that happened to me. I'm not going to go and thank the fuckers for letting me go. But in retrospect, it has led to bigger and better things.

About a month after I got fired, I got a communication from a recruiter from AFLAC. Yeah, the duck you've seen on commercials. I figured I had nothing to lose other than an hour or two of my time while I was out job hunting. I met with a Regional Sales Coordinator in an orientation that was supposed to be for a group of people, but I was the only one that showed up. So I had a very positive meeting with him, but since his office was in the LAX area, and I live at least 45 minutes away, without traffic (and that's Southern California traffic, the worst traffic known to man) he didn't think that I would like driving so far every day. So he referred me to the office that I now work out off in Pasadena.

That second meeting with AFLAC went well as well. I was encouraged to take the Life & Health certification class. I did it. I went to the California Insurance office in downtown Los Angeles and took the test and passed it on my first try. I was appointed to work with AFLAC on April 12, 2 months to the day that I lost my job with Bank of America, and I have to say that I am now much much much happier than before. I'm a small business owner now. I have no hours that I really need to adhere to and the support I get from the AFLAC folks is second to none. I now have a career, instead of a job, and I find it extremely rewarding, specially since I'm actually doing something that helps people in their time of need.

So . . . that's what happened. That has been a condensed (yeah, this post could have been longer) version of the last 4 months or so of my life. Now that things are settling down and I'm getting into a routine that I'm comfortable with, I should be able to come back to the good ol' BAFW and post things from time to time. I toyed with the idea of just ending the blog and deleting it from its little corner of the internet. But I changed my mind. I want to keep this going. I don't just want to throw almost 5 years of blogging away, casually discarding it like Bank of America casually discards their quality representatives for really minuscule offenses (in my case with no previous track record of misconduct).

But I'm not bitter or anything. They also lost a customer, but what do they care right?

Red Band Cop Out Trailer

I've seen a couple of "Cop Out" trailers out there, but this one is by far the funniest. Most likely due to all the cussing and dick jokes. Which I'm all for. I might be in the early nascent stages of my 30's, but I'm still a pubescent teen at heart. "Cop Out" stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan and is directed by Kevin Smith. He didn't write this one, which is why I think most of the marketing is downplaying his actual involvement in the movie. No matter who wrote this movie, I'm sure he can coax a good performance out of an actor. I've never seen something Smith hasn't written, so I'm actually curious to see if he's also grown as a director. "Cop Out" hits theaters at the end of this month.

The Last Airbender Super Bowl Ad

"The Last Airbender" is coming out this year, courtesy of M. Night Shyamalan. He wrote, directed and produced this (and I'm sure he'll find a way to cast himself in a small role in it as well, that's just how he rolls. Kinda like here @ BAFW, where our parenthesized comments always run too long). It's an adaptation of a cartoon I've never seen or paid much attention to, but it can't be any worse than his last filmed offering: "The Happening". While I haven't seen that movie, I never hear anything good from anyone that has.

This ad will air during the next Super Bowl, which, I think is happening this weekend? I don't know. I don't follow the foosball. I might record the game and just watch the commercials, but it's doubtful.

The Losers Have Winning Trailer

"The Losers" is a DC/Vertigo comic book property that just got itself a Hollywood adaptation. The good news is, Hollywood picked a winner when it settled on "The Losers". The story is solid if I remember the comic book (of which I've only read a couple of the trade paperbacks) and from the looks of the trailer, that has translated well into the silver screen.

Quite the cast as well in this one. Zoe Saldana, just off "Star Trek" and voicing the "hot" Na'vi in James Cameron's "Avatar" is in this one. So is Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who from the trailer, might have finally found a filmed project he doesn't bite the bullet in. Or maybe not. He does spend quality time in a coffin in this movie. And, the always entertaining Chris Evans is in this.

All in all, a pretty solid trailer for a pretty solid movie I'm definitely looking out for.

Most NSFW Trailer of 2010 - Room in Rome

I'm not at all familiar with the movies that director Julio Medem has worked on. But, after seeing the trailer for his latest, "Room in Rome", I think I kind of want to familiarize myself with his film work. From what I can gather from the trailer itself is pretty much a girl meets girl story, but instead of showing us all the boring parts, these two girls just spend their entire time together in a hotel room in the titular city naked as a couple of . . . naked girls. For those that like to watch these types of movies in private (with a bottle of lotion . . . for moisturizing purposes), IFC films will be releasing this movie in theaters and on Video on Demand the very same day. So you could see this from the comfort of your own home, or in a dark room full of strangers.

BAFW's Nature Appreciation - Bullet Owl

Here at BAFW, I don't just appreciate movie trailers and videogames and, in the past, nip slips and upskirts. No, there is a larger scope to my interests. It's not much larger, but it does encompass other things. Like the awesomeness of nature. Evidenced in the picture above. No, that's not the military's next secret weapon. It's actually just an owl in mid-flight, probably getting ready to dive at a field mouse to make itself a tasty lunch . . . or dinner . . . or maybe even brunch. I don't know what time of day that picture was taken, and I'm not sure if this particular owl just sticks to a solid 3 meals a day or if it likes to snack in between. I don't know the bird. But, I do know that I think that picture is pretty kick-ass. Even if it doesn't display the slipping nipple of a Hollywood starlet or the exposed panties (or lack thereof) of a celebutard like Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan.

Although, I wouldn't put it past them to start stuffing bullet owls in their crotch's to attract bird watchers instead of the paparazzi.

Tekken Trailer

This is the first I've heard of a movie adaptation of the popular videogame franchise "Tekken". But, here it is, apparently for the most part ready for release as indicated by the trailer above. Will it be good? Who knows. Most videogame movies are stinkers that should never have been produced. But, the fight scenes seem solid in this one, albeit happening in a rather repetitive locale. I don't hold high hopes for this, but it might be a solid rental in the near future. Fuck, it can't be any worse than the Jean-Claude Van Damme starring "Street Fighter" movie from the 90's. Newest and Oldest The Crazies Trailer(s)

I've seen a couple of trailers for "The Crazies" remake. This third one that's embedded into this post seems to be the most effective, while not giving away too much of the movie. The movie is a remake of the exactly titled: "The Crazies", by George A. Romero. Breck Eisner is directing this iteration of the movie and that's Timothy Olyphant in the lead role. The movie is coming out this year, so look out for it. For comparison purposes, I've also included (below) the original's trailer from 1973. See which one you like better.

Hello 2010 & 2009 Holiday Wrap Up

Yes, BAFW has been on a sort of hiatus while I was on vacation the last couple of weeks of December 2009. What was I doing? Pretty much enjoying some much needed family time. Christmas came and went and it was better than last year. So that's a plus. My wife told me she didn't need to return/exchange a single present I gave her for Christmas, which is a rousing success for me, since in the past I've gotten her things that have left her scratching her head wondering if the gift was really for her.

And don't get me started on what she got me. I won't list everything, but she got me comics, videogames, movies and some other geek-related goodness. That woman knows me well.

After Christmas, we ventured to Las Vegas for the third time this year, but this time, we got comp'ed rooms and we came back without any of our gambling money, but all of our entertainment money was still intact. So, it's not exactly breaking even, but we had a great time there. Set us up with massages at a spa and get us some penny slots and we're in heaven in Sin City.

We didn't stick around for New Year's in Las Vegas. I've done that a couple of times and it's never been great. Just crowded. And drunky. We found our own crowded and drunky spot here in Los Angeles at my wife's friend's work party. Open bar and free food guaranteed our presence. And for the most part, the party was fun, but we did leave before midnight. Why? We felt like it. And we're non-conformists . . . OK, we just got tired and wanted to get back home.

Other than that, not much else happened. I've been back at work (ugh) since Monday of this week, not really loving it, but I realize it's a necessary evil. I should start posting again within the next couple of days. Don't worry, trailers and funny videos will make their way onto BAFW soon enough. 'Til then, later.

Panic Attack!

It's very likely that you've never heard of Fede Alvarez until now that I have mentioned his name. Alvarez, an Argentinian film-maker derived from clues featured in this short movie, has made a kick-ass little moving picture for an amazingly slim budget. About $300. American. So, it shouldn't be a surprise that his short: "Panic Attack" (or "Attaque de Panico" for our Spanish reader[s]) has already landed him a $30 million movie deal. Good for him. I just want more of this visuals on either the proverbial big screen, or I could settle for BAFW HQ's big screen. Either way, BAFW wants more Fede Alvarez. Check out the movie. You won't be dissapointed.

Hit Girl Gets Red Band Kick Ass Trailer

Come April 2010, everyone's going to be talking about "Kick Ass". Being currently touted as the most irresponsibly violent movie in recent history, it puts children (or young adolescents) into extremely violent situations with some truly entertaining results. I'm going to watch this. Specially now, since I saw the 11 year old character from the movie, "Hit Girl", wailing on some mafia dudes with a visceral finesse usually found in much older assassins. Check out the red band trailer (I know, she says "fucking with you") for more severed limbs and bullet holes than you can shake a stick at.

RIP Brittany Murphy 1977 - 2009

Brittany Murphy, aged 32, passed away due to a cardiac arrest this past Sunday morning. Even though I hadn't seen much of this actress since 2005's "Sin City", she did have a role in the newest Sylvester Stallone action flick "The Expendables". And who could forget her career-making role as Tai in "Clueless". . . or, if you're a "King of the Hill" fan, she was the voice of the Luanne character for the entire run of that show. No details as of yet as to what might have brought on the cardiac arrest. Remember Brittany Murphy at her IMDB page where you can see all of her past and upcoming film work.

Iron Man 2 Trailer

Ummm . . . Holy shit. Can it be possible to make a better "Iron Man" movie? From the looks of the trailer above it's looking like a damn good possibility. Looks like everyone is back for some more iron-clad goodness (except for the guy replaced by Don Cheadle) and the new villian, Whiplash, played by Mickey Rourke comes off appropriately menacing and badass. Lots of cool moments in this trailer. Can't wait for 2010.

Edit: Oh, and I totally forgot to mention the jaw-dropping "War Machine" sequence in this trailer and the slight glimpse at Scarlett Johansson dressed up as Russian covert operative and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent "Black Widow". How could I forget.

Kick Ass new Kick-Ass Clip

"Kick-Ass" has had some great buzz thanks to the hype the source material had when it came out via comic book form. But, it's had a bit of a bumpy ride towards getting made, so much so that the film itself didn't have a distribution deal until just a few months ago when people started to see the finished product. Even with Nicolas Cage involved (I find myself saying this often now) I want to see this movie. Sadly, while this clip does give us a rather dangerous but almost sweet father-daughter moment, it doesn't have any McLovin in it. Yes, that kid from "Superbad" and "Role Models" is in this movie as well, and he plays a super-hero. Check out the clip, and get ready for some ass kicking come next year when the film is due to be released.

Robin Hood Trailer

I've seen many a Robin Hood movie. Now, I guess I have to see another one. Ridley Scott directs this one and Russell Crowe has been cast as the anti-hero in question. It's a little reminiscent of their previous period piece collaboration, "Gladiator". Is that a bad thing? Not to me. I loved that movie. Here's hoping that "Robin Hood" comes out truly badass and hits its target in 2010. Look out for this movie. In the meantime, check out the trailer.

BAFW TV Guide - Guilty Pleasure

I tend to stay clear of reality TV. I do appreciate the value and merit of a well scripted show. For the most part, MTV has been pumping out these generic and engineered shows like "The Real World" and all of those "Laguna Beach" spin-off's. Totally forgettable television if you ask me. And then they went back to the drawing board and created this fantastically terrible but hard not to watch show entitled: "Jersey Shore". In itself, this show is a spin off of a "True Life" MTV documentary, but that's the only place MTV cut corners.

The show is full of self-proclaimed guidos and guidettes. Basically, Italian-American douchebags. These kids are more preoccupied with tanning, fist pumping to house music, hooking up and drinking heavily. And, despite looking like MTV put blinders on when casting, these kids think they're the hottest thing since garlic bread. It's hilarious. I'm currently just tuning in to see how much I can hate these ass-hats. Check your local listings if you want to catch the show. MTV plays it all the time. Since the show just started a couple of weeks ago, you might even get to watch the 2 hour (yes, T W O) season premiere.

Daybreakers Trailer

The Spierig Brothers, directors of the rather fun but ultimately uneven Australian zombie flick "Undead", are back, this time taking on vampires in their latest film titled "Daybreakers". From the looks of this trailer, it would appear that they got some quality actors this time around for their futuristic look at a world overrun by bloodsuckers. Check out the trailer. The movie should be coming out soon. Not exactly sure when it comes out. I've been out of the loop lately when it comes to movie premier dates. But, I'm sure you can do a Google search or something. The Sorcerer's Apprentice Trailer

Since magic is all the rage these days, Disney is dipping into the dark arts and pulling "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" out of it's hat. Directed by Jon Turtletaub (who might or might not be turtle'y enough for your turtle club) and starring Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, and Alfred Molina, it doesn't look like it has much in common with the "Fantasia" short that might have inspired it, but it still looks decent enough to watch thanks to super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer throwing tons of money at this project. The trailer looks pretty slick and, despite the presence of Nick Cage, pretty darn good. "Iron Man 2" is gearing up for a 2010 release, but already a stream of hype has been funneling out to the media. I could have posted the picture of Iron Man and War Machine, back to back, but I think you'd much rather see the pictures of Scarlett Johansson, which will be playing Russian spy "Black Widow", low and close to the floor. In fact, if she spends the whole movie walking around on all fours, you won't hear any complaints from me. One more pic below. Check out the movie when it comes out. If it's even half as good as the first "Iron Man" movie, then it's gonna be better than most films this year.

Blur Trailer

I enjoy a good racing game here and there. Whether it's a simulation style racer like "Forza", or an arcade battle racing game like the one above, "Blur" seems like tons of fun. Not only that, but they got 50 real world licensed cars that you can damage to your heart's content. Check out the trailer. "Blur" should be hitting the streets in 2010. Look for it. Borderlands gets Zombies

"Borderlands" is a great game I haven't been able to get my hands on as of yet. But I will. It's like they grabbed an RPG and fused it with a FPS and added a few thousand guns for you to play with. And now, thanks to the developer, 2K Games, there's now some new downloadable content (DLC) available to buy to further your gaming experience. But, the frosting on the extra gameplay cake is . . . zombies! Check out the video. "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned" is out now, so whip out the credit cards and get it for either XBOX 360 or PS3.

Date Night Trailer

I had no idea that this movie was coming out until today. Good thing that it's not released until next April. "Date Night" stars Steve Carrell and Tina Fey as a married couple that wants to spice up their marriage by pretending to be someone else to take their dinner reservation . . . with dire, but at the same time, hilarious circumstances. Lots of cameos in this one as well. I spotted Common, Mark Wahlberg, James Franco and Mila Kunis. This movie looks like something my wife would totally be into, and that's good for me, because now I don't have to convince her to go see this. Check out the trailer. It's funny.

The Olivia Munn Magazine?

Ukranian Street Fighters

Oh Ukranians . . . Why fight like this? In broad daylight? While drunk? And with spectators? Oh, it's for my own personal amusement? Then carry on, please. This fight is almost epic. It runs for a good five minutes, interrupted here and there by Ukranians of saner (or should I say sober) minds who try to break up the fight . . . repeatedly. I don't know what sparked this dust up, but does it really matter? I didn't think so. If someone does speak the language and wants to translate what is being said, then please, be my guest. The Road Trailer #2

"The Road" looks like the bleak and grimy holiday fare I need to cut the saccharine sweetness that Hollywood tends to pump out towards the end of the year. Based on the even bleaker novel written by Cormac McCarthy (author of "No Country for Old Men"), "The Road" tells the story of a man and his son trying to stay alive after a global apocalypse wipes out most of humanity leaving not much more than a wasteland behind. Sounds like my cup of tea.

It also helps that this movie has a pretty impressive cast including Viggo Mortensen, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and Robert Duvall. This movie is directed by John Hillcoat, the guy that directed Guy Pearce in the Australian western "The Proposition", which was also bleak and grimy. I'm starting to see a pattern here. In any case, this should be good. Make sure to check out the trailer and make a date to balance out the holiday cheer with some post-apocalyptic somberness.

BAFW TV Guide - Fringe

Fringe
Fringe is the best show I'm not currently watching on TV. I do catch myself up on FOX.com, but Thursday nights are pretty busy when it comes to TV and there are too many conflicts for my DVR to handle. But, that's not to say you should miss this show. It's fantastic. And the scope of the story is just beginning to become realized.

In case you are new to this show, it's basically an FBI procedural show with an inter-dimensional twist. While the show started out a little bit on the X-Files-ish (another great FOX genre show), it has now taken a life of it's own by putting the viewer in the middle of a burgeoning war between our unsuspecting dimension and another, more insidious version. Trying to make sense of it is an FBI agent (played by Anna Torv) who gets mixed up with this and begins investigating weird cases that seem to be all somewhat connected by something that was referenced in the first season as "The Pattern".

Now in it's second season, "Fringe" is ramping up the speed and the strangeness. But it's not at all a bad thing, as the first season ended in a bit of a cliffhanger and season 2 just hits the ground running (or rolling if you watched the first episode of this current season). If you've missed it so far, make sure you pick up the DVD and then head on out to FOX's website to watch this season's missed episodes. "Fringe" doesn't disappoint and actually has an excellent cast of characters, even if Pacey from fucking "Dawson's Creek" is involved. Joshua Jackson is actually quite good here, so don't hold it against the show.

Firefly Fans Rejoice for a Minute or So

I've been watching "Castle" frankly at first because of Nathan Fillion's involvement. I've continued to watch because it's also very entertaining. Yes, I am a disappointed "Firefly" and "Serenity" fan that thought the show and the movie were unfairly treated by the mainstream TV-watching and movie-going public. But, in this week's episode of "Castle", it seems that Fillion decided to throw us fans a bone by donning the Mal Reynolds outfit at the beginning of their Halloween episode, and then had a rather comical exchange with his TV daughter on the show. It was great, and something that both my wife and I laughed at and knowingly grinned at when we both saw it.

Sure, it's taken me a couple of days to get this post out, since the show airs on Monday nights, but that's the beauty of DVR right? I don't have to watch the show when it actually airs. "Castle" is currently in it's second season. I'm sure you can get the first season out on DVD and catch yourself up on ABC's website if you missed any other episodes from this current season.

And this should count as another BAFW TV Guide entry. But then the title of the post would be too large. Fuck it. This one is for the Browncoats.

Trailer Time - Black Devil Doll

"Black Devil Doll" is a movie that had escaped my knowledge up until now. Looks like it came out in 2008 and is currently out on DVD. So, if anyone out there was thinking of getting me a kick-ass Christmas present, this would be it. I mean, I wouldn't turn down a Lamborghini, but I'm sure I wouldn't enjoy it as much as this movie. Check out the extremely NSFW trailer, preferably from the comfort of your own home or unsupervised computer terminal. The disclaimer/warning at the end is just hilarious. BAFW TV Guide - Flash Forward

Flash Forward
This is a brand new hour-long show for the Fall 2009 season. Based on a book of the same name, "Flash Forward" tells the tale of a global event where everyone blacks out for just over 2 minutes (127 seconds) and sees a glimpse of their future 6 months from now. The show, playing on ABC on Thursday evenings, looks impressive at times thanks to a generous budget (it shows). It's not as action packed as I was expecting, but the slow unraveling of the mystery is keeping me hooked in right now.

The cast does a fairly decent job. There are a couple of "Lost" cast members that make up the ensemble cast here. No relation to their previous work on that other ABC show. When it comes down to it, if you're looking for a drama with a sci-fi twist, "Flash Forward" doesn't disappoint. There are about 5 episodes so far, with more to come. Check your local listings for times. And catch yourself up over at ABC.com if you still haven't had a chance to watch this yet.

BAFW TV Guide - New Comedies Fall 2009

I've been missing for some time from this page. I'd like to say I was doing interesting things in exotic locales . . . but it's mostly been watching the boob-tube. And by that, I mean television, not a freaky-deaky porn site that is similar to YouTube in it's ease of use. But, we're straying from the subject at hand.

Community
"Community" is a new comedy on NBC that plays during their Thursday night block of comedy. It's one of the best half hours of hilarity out right now if you wanted my personal opinion (which I'm guessing is why you're actually taking the time to read this). "Community" stars the great Joel McHale who basic cable TV viewers will know from E's "The Soup". He's part of an ensemble cast that includes Chevy Chase, who is also hilarious in this show. Pretty much the whole cast brings a little something different to the show, set in a fictional community college, and so far, it's always been consistently great. If you haven't jumped on board yet, please do. You're missing out.

Modern Family
The next new comedy of this fall season that I have been thoroughly enjoying is ABC's "Modern Family". This show plays on Wednesday nights (tonight if you're reading this the day that I posted it) and it's also something you can't afford to miss. Otherwise, you'd be comedy bankrupt. There's a lot of funny people in this show, notably the great Ed O'Neill, who you will remember from "Married with Children". Here, he's paired up with a Colombian actress Sofia Vergara (who many male individuals of Hispanic descent will remember from helping them get through puberty). They make up 1/3 of the family portrayed in "Modern Family". The other couples include a gay couple that just adopted a Chinese baby and a more traditional family with a father that tries too hard to be his kids' friends. The scene in the first episode where he's detailing his knowledge of text abbreviations was "LOL". Even though my description isn't doing the show much justice, trust me when I tell you that you need to DVR or TiVo this show ASAP.

BAFW TV Guide will return within the next couple of days where I will talk about new dramatic shows I've been checking out for the first time and enjoying. It might not even take 14 days to come up with a new post. Keep your eyes peeled . . . figuratively speaking. You need those puppies for TV viewing.

Misinformation Station

The Human Centipede Gets Clipped

"The Human Centipede" is something I just heard about recently. I know it's being screened this week at Austin's "Fantastic Fest" movie festival. It's won some horror movie prizes and the such. All you need to know going into this movie (if it gets an American release) is that there's a mad scientist attaching humans together to create a multiple organism that shares the same intestinal system. Which now, makes the last part of the clip make sense to you if you watched before you read this. Yeah, that woman's mouth is attached to someone else's rear, and she seems to have the same human-attached-to-my-butt problem. Truly a fucked up film, but aren't those some of the best ones sometimes?

September Doldrums

Yeah, in case you hadn't noticed, September's been a pretty lean month when it comes to posting around the BAFW. You could say that I'm getting a little bit on the tired side. But it's mostly my day job killing my writing ability by exhausting the shit out me. And it's not even having to work extra hours, because all that beautifully expensive (for the company) overtime we used to work has dried up as of late. No, just going in to work and doing the same thing over and over again is what's doing it.

But, I start a new assignment October 5th. I won't really have to deal with customers for about 2 months while I'm being trained for my new position at my job. Which is great. I should be feeling a little more refreshed and posts will just flow a bit more naturally then. I'm hoping. Keep your fingers crossed.

So, let's just ride out September. It's just a shitty month for BAFW. And is anyone else in Southern California? What the hell is up with this heat wave? I hate you Santa Ana winds!

Paranormal Activity Trailer

We Are ODST Trailer

The new "Halo 3" campaign is due to come out September 22nd. Titled "Halo 3:ODST", it puts you in the boots of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper rather than a genetically enhanced Spartan super-soldier. But, from the looks of this live action trailer, that doesn't make it any less exciting and action-filled. Did I mention the video is also gorgeous to just look at. It also looks a lot like "District 9". Not sure if Neill Blomkamp directed this or not, but he had directed a few shorts in 2007 for the "Halo 3" release.

This video is also making me yearn for a live action "Halo" movie. It can be done. Just check out the trailer and get ready for a pretty badass experience when it comes out. A movie might just be a pipe dream, but we still get to play the game.

Clip of the Dead

I'm getting excited about zombies again. Sure, "Diary of the Dead" wasn't as good as anyone of us could have hoped for. Which is why it's so important for "Survival of the Dead" to be good. This is Romero's next zombie flick, and here's a clip that, while not entirely action packed, does give me a glimmer of hope that this movie will be worth my 10 or so dollars per ticket. Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day Trailer

"Boondock Saints" was a pretty good movie. Not a movie that I thought would get a sequel ten years later, but hey, here is the trailer for the follow up: "Boondock Saints II: All Saint's Day". Seems like both the cast and the writer/director are back for another violent romp. That's what was fun about the first movie. Hope this one doesn't disappoint. Someone does have high hopes for this due to the fact that it's not going straight to DVD, but rather getting a theatrical release. I guess we'll have to wait and see if this sequel can do the original any justice when it comes out later this year. The trailer is helping though. I kind of like. Check it out.

Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Video

I can't wait for "Modern Warfare 2" to come out for the XBOX 360. I can easily predict that this game will own my life, much to my wife's chagrin, for the foreseeable future. But, just like the last game, "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare", I might not get my hands on this until December, when all the fucking kids that play the game over XBOX Live have had time to hone their skills to near impossible to beat. That's the only thing I hate about multiplayer games these days. If you don't get in on the first couple of days after the game comes out, you can't help but feel like a n00b when you finally catch up to everyone else. In any case, the game looks great. Bloody and fast-paced action is what you can expect. Even when the game lags and hosts need to be changed, the video shows a pretty easy transition to the action. I'm already sold on this game. What do the rest of you think?

Venture Bros Season 4 Trailer

Inglourious Basterds Mini-Review

I had a chance to check the new Quentin Tarantino movie this past weekend, and boy was I glad I did. The movie was good. Enough action with crazy Tarantino-esque dialogue-heavy scenes that build tension. It's a great, non-historically acurate World War II fantasy that should be watched by anyone with a love for a good time. I don't want to give up too much during this mini-review, so consider this spoiler free.

Quick story re-cap in case you haven't heard much about this. The movie starts with the interrogation of a French dairy farmer who is suspected of housing Jewish refugees in Nazi occupied France. Things don't go well for the Jews (a common theme in World War II), and only one survives the encounter. The story then moves to the formation of a guerrilla warfare unit sanctioned by the U.S. to pretty much wreak havoc behind enemy lines. At their command is Lt. Aldo Raines, played by Brad Pitt. He is not the protagonist of this movie. His character is more like a piece of an ensemble. A pivotal piece, but the movie is not entirely about "The Basterds".

The flow of the story is broken up into chapters that jump around through the war. It all pretty much comes together in the end, when elements of each chapter meet up at a movie premiere for the latest Nazi propaganda film "Nation's Pride". From here, it builds to a highly rewarding (for the viewer) ending.

This is a fun movie. Each actor/actress was well cast in their roles. Quentin seems to work well within the constraints of his story, since it's set in WWII, he doesn't get to go on-and-on about pop culture like he did in his previous movies, but it doesn't show like he might have found himself at a loss for words when writing this. In fact, I'm pretty sure there will be a director's cut version of the film hitting video soon where one can enjoy in the excesses of a Tarantino script. But, for now, just check out the movie. It's definitely worth a matinee screening, or if you're cheap like me, the first show at an AMC theater on the weekends isn't more than $6 bucks.

The Wolfman Trailer

"The Wolfman" trailer just hit Yahoo!, and after viewing it, I'm kind of glad someone's not making another vampire or zombie flick right now. There seems to be an over-saturation of that going on. And, the werewolf in this movie doesn't look like a cuddly puppy like the ones featured in the fantastically pussyfied "Twilight" books/movies. This movie will be coming out next February. It stars some pretty solid actors: Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Hugo Weaving and Emily Blunt. Should be a pretty good movie. I like that it's a period piece. Britney Spears Does Top Ten on Letterman

I don't watch late night television, so this little bit on Letterman eluded me. His top ten list for the night was related to a scenario where Britney Spears might be President. And, since Britney just recently lost most of that cheetoh and twinkie weight she was carrying around, they thought it would be a good idea to throw her into the bit, wearing a bikini of course, to make things funnier? Not really. Although, she did wow me with her literacy skills. I didn't know she could read that well, unless, it was pre-taped, and she was lip-synching it. But I doubt it. Not a funny video, but if you want to see Britney in a bikini, reading, then this is for you.

District 9 Mini-Review

"District 9" is the must see movie of the year. And it's most definitely one of the best scifi movies of the decade. What Neill Blompkamp and Peter Jackson have crafted, for not much money at that, looks better than any big budget action movie out there. But, if you've been trapped in a basement over the weekend and didn't have a chance to watch it and you're thinking: "What's this 'District 9' all about?", read the following.

The movie starts off with documentary-style interviews. Right off the bat, you learn that 20 years prior, an alien mothership stopped right over Johannesburg, South Africa, for unknown reasons. Eventually, humans cut their way into the ship, and find a race of extra-terrestrials in dire need of help. So, what do we benevolent humans do? We put them in a shanty-town/ghetto, perform medical/science experiments on them, and pretty much treat them like 2nd class citizens. The movie makes a parallel with South Africa's apartheid that is pretty hard to miss.

We then meet the protagonist, a low level bureaucrat in the MNU, who gets put in charge of relocating the alien population from the run down District 9 to the brand new District 10 that has been erected outside of the city. Lots of unrest amongst the human populace has caused the government to take action, so they're evicting the aliens, who are referred to using the racial/derogatory term: prawn. For that, they enlisted the help of the MNU, one of the world's largest weapons manufacturer, who has a secret agenda of course. They want to use alien weaponry. Only problem is that it only works with alien DNA.

I could keep telling you what happens from there, but I don't want to spoil the movie too much. Suffice to say, the low level MNU bureaucrat gets something sprayed on him during one of the routine evictions and things start to change for him. The truth of the company that he works for starts to be revealed to him, and he makes the choice to go against everything he has believed to try to help the alien visitors.

This movie made love to my eyeballs. It's fantastic. Everything from the story (which should always be the main focus in a movie) to the SFX work. Pitch perfect. It's no wonder it's getting rave reviews from pretty much anyone who's seen it so far. I highly recommend this to anyone that's interested in seeing something great. It's a hell of a lot of fun as well. Even though there are some heady issues that the film tackles, it's never boring. It might even make you rethink if it's OK to pee on yourself in public. It's so good you don't want to get up to use the bathroom if you've been drinking gigantic sodas like I do whenever I go watch a movie. Don't worry, I didn't soil myself, but I might have done irreparable damage to my bladder by holding it in for too long. Fuck it, it was worth it.

BAFW Classic - Alive in Joburg

In honor of the sci-fi must see of the summer, "District 9", here's a classic BAFW post from the past. This is right around the time that the director, Niell Blomkamp had been tagged to direct the then in pre-production "Halo" movie. That fell apart, but it enabled him to make the full version of "Alive in Joburg", which is now titled "District 9". It's a fantastic little film. I'll be watching "District 9" tomorrow, and who knows, I might even review it. Here's the original post, coming back all the way from August 2006. Enjoy . . . again.

If I were in that position, I would have ended up slapping the shit out of these two chicks. And the thing that kills me is that the girl in the middle is completely convinced that she's doing the right thing. Try to sit through the 9+ minutes of this and you might want to rethink your involvement in religion.

The Fourth Kind Trailer

I have always been interested in alien abduction movies and stories. This newest one, titled "The Fourth Kind", seems to be pretty cool, boasting a "based on real events" feel that looks like it weaves in archival footage into the story rather effectively. This is something I wouldn't mind watching when it hits theaters. And, at least this time, Milla Jovovich isn't fighting zombies . . . but she still might flash her miniscule rack. The Walking Dead Shamble Over to AMC

"The Walking Dead" has to be one of my all time favorite zombie stories out there. The fact that it's still going in comic book form (I just wait for the TPB) is fantastic. Hollywood has taken note of Robert Kirkman's intricate and painfully brutal story and a network that could do it justice has taken interest. AMC, home of "Mad Men", wants to put Frank Darabont (The Mist, Shawshank Redemption) in charge of raising the dead . . . on TV. AICN, the place where this miracle of news found me, has a link over to Variety where you can read more about the deal. I personally can't wait to see this.

I'm not sure who's in charge of setting up the "Teen Choice Awards", but someone should tell the people involved that putting a 16-year old, Jesus-loving girl in short shorts and making her swing around a stripper pole while a ton of other teens are watching might be a little inappropriate. Although, when I was 16, I would have loved to see something like this. But now, it's just a little creepy. I didn't watch the "Teen Choice Awards" this year, again, but it does attract unintentional perversion from time to time. BAFW's Escape from L.A.

It's been a few months since my last vacation, so I guess it's time to head out to Las Vegas again, BAFW's favorite vacation destination . . . by default. It's just cheap I guess to take vacations there. We'll be staying at the Orleans, I know, not on the strip, but we got a terrific deal (that was helped out by a Hotels.com coupon) for a 3 night stay, so you can't pass that up. We're also cutting loose out there. The wife and I don't drink or smoke cigarettes, or even eat meat while not on vacation. But during those fleeting moments where we can escape the reality of bills, 9-hour work days, and responsibilities, we do every thing we don't do. So, smoking is on. Drinking is on. Eating meat is on.

While I'm away, I'll be employing the Robo-Poster again. I have no idea what it's going to throw at you, but expect to see something tomorrow, around 8 AM. It likes to sleep in I guess. Robots . . . what can you do.

The Mystery of Madonna's Freaky Arms Explained

Hatchi matchi! Looks at those guns. I think Madonna might actually be a terminator sent back from the future to adopt as many African babies as it can to bring forth some sort of an apocalypse. It looks like instead of muscles, there are pistons and gears hard at work mimicking normal human arm movements. I don't watch much late night television programming. I'm just never up that late. I'm like a very old man, out like a light by 9 PM. I know, such a party animal right? But in any case, this clip I'm assuming is from a very recent Jimmy Kimmel show where he has Seth Rogen on to promote "Funny People" (which is, very funny, watched it yesterday). The clip doesn't talk much about the movie, but does focus on one of Seth's previous appearances on the show. Specifically how he got rejected by a then relatively unknown Megan Fox. The video is pretty funny, and the incident is a little cringe-inducing. I feel bad for Seth, but at the same time, I couldn't help but laugh.

He's been trying to get cast members of "Saved by the Bell" to appear on his program, except for the ever elusive, and suddenly missing an "Amber", Tiffani Thiessen. She made this Funny or Die video explaining why she's not going on the show. It didn't make me LOL, but then again, it's the nostalgia factor that is making me post this. It probably needs a laugh track so I know when the funny parts are and when I should laugh along with them. That's what "Saved by the Bell" had. Maybe if Screech of Principal Belding had made a cameo on this, it might have been better . . . but it's just Thiessen all the time. Check out the video.

The Downfall of the English Language Plans a Snack

So, I get this e-mail at work. From an adult. Someone that should know how to write an e-mail without making him/her-self look like a complete idiot. But hey, I am surrounded by retards at work, so this really shouldn't surprise me too much. There are good intentions that come along with the e-mail, but that first sentence, and what follows, completely takes my mind of what this person was trying to do, and makes me feel bad for the mangling he/she is giving the poor English language. I will italicize what makes me feel sorrow for the language that I love.

Please due not feel obligated!! …… But, for those that are interested…. I was thinking of bring in some muffins, juice and fruit tomorrow for those who want to contribute $2.00 each. I know we all get in early in the morning and be a little hunger so I will pick up some breakfast snacks… I will be in tomorrow at 8am. So if you are interested please give me your $2.00 today I leave at 5pm……. Again please do not feel obligated this is just a suggestion if anyone has any other thoughts or suggestion please let me know…..

I'm not going to even get into the punctuation. All the random "..." just makes me wonder if my employer should require more than just a high school diploma or a G.E.D equivalent.

Whiteout Trailer

"Whiteout" is, sadly, not a movie about my favorite brand of corrective fluid. Rather, it's a comic book movie adaptation which puts Kate Beckinsale in a murder type mystery in the icy Antarctic. I've never actually read the source material, so if I go watch this movie, I go in with no expectations. The trailer looks OK so far, but if anyone's actually read the comic, please let me know if it's doing it any justice. And if I should get the actual comic book as well. Tyler Perry Presents Ripping Off Classics

Tyler Perry movies don't appeal to me. Black dudes in drag and fat suits movies have been done better in the past. They're never classics, but a segment of the movie going population eats it up. So, it's a little disturbing when Tyler Perry decides to make a poster for his new Madea movie "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" . . . I'm sorry, I got the name wrong, the movie is naturally called "Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself" . . . rips off the classic Sam Peckinpah movie "Straw Dogs". It's cinematic blasphemy if you ask me. Perry would call it "Tyler Perry's Cinematic Blasphemy". So, if you come across someone that thinks the above poster is great, quickly slap the back of their head, and make them aware that they're praising a rather plagiaristic homage.

New Futurama Returns with New Voice Cast?

So, the return of "Futurama" is becoming a bittersweet ordeal. Both Ainitcool.com and CHUD.com are reporting (from various sources, so by the time it hits here, you can bet it's an absolute and undeniable truth) that key voice cast members Billy West, John DiMaggio and Katey Sagal won't be returning when the show hits cable again on Comedy Central next year. Salary disputes are cited as the cause of their exit. But, those three voice actors are "Futurama" in my opinion. Sure, the writing is what makes the show, but those guys and lady say the lines, and my brain has imprinted to them like a baby chick does to a mother bird. In a perfect world, I would throw any amount of money they want at them to continue with the show. But, sadly, I guess we'll just have to make due with slightly off-sounding Leela, Bender, Fry and all the other characters Billy West plays (a lot of them).

Koreans Emotionally Scar Baby Bear for Life

I'm not sure if I should be outraged or LOL'ing at this poor baby bear. But one thing is for sure, Koreans are cruel. Well, at least some of their television programming is. I don't want to make broad generalizations. Check out this baby bear, freaking out when he is forced to share an enclosure with a couple of baby lions. I guess it's too much for the bear cub, because it's then placed with other baby animals, and it just can't take it. It even becomes afraid of shadows. I'm just glad my tax dollars won't go to pay for that bear's adult therapy sessions.

Day One Trailer

I do enjoy a post-apocalyptic yarn from time to time. That's why, this trailer for NBC's "Day One" is looking mighty freaking cool to me. The video is not that great when it comes to quality, but the ideas and concept shine through anyway. What at first looks like a re-hashed meteor strike is then substituted with something more sinister. Check your local listings for this one. It's probably not going to start with the regular fall season of 2009, so look out for it mid-season 2010. It's going to feel like a long wait, but to me, it looks like it might just be worth it.

Update: So, the first video was killed by NBC . . . let's see how long this one lasts.

Jennifer's Body Red Band Trailer

It's also the new one from Diablo Cody, ex-stripper turned screenwriter that gave us the delightfully sarcastic "Juno". And it's a red-band trailer, so you know that either skin is displayed or cursing happens. So, why are you still reading this, check out the trailer. You don't want all the cool kids thinking you're not hip.

Attack of the Phantom Audio

I have to apologize to any BAFW readers that might have had their ears accosted by this phantom audio that is playing over my blog. I have no idea where it's coming from specifically. I have a good idea that it might be generated by one of the marketing/advertising providers that I have posted up over the good ol' BAFW, I just don't know which one. I have to do a little research and stop that. For now, try to deal with the stream of nigh-incomprehensible gibberish that is pouring out of your computer speakers. If you are hearing it though. Couples Retreat Trailer

"Couples Retreat", for all intents and purposes, is something I should have no interest in watching. It's a little formulaic and decidedly intended for women. But, just like the latest batch of romantic comedies that I have enjoyed (ex: "I Love You, Man" and "Away We Go") it seems to incorporate elements that even I can enjoy. I might even take the wife to go see this, and I'll be a fucking hero for choosing a movie that doesn't have explosions or transforming robots. 2012 Trailer

Zombieland Trailer

"Zombieland" is something I had heard about a few months ago, but didn't know much about it other than it's supposed to be a zombie comedy starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin. Now, Apple has the trailer for the movie, in Quicktime, for your zombie viewing pleasure here. From the looks of the trailer, it seems like this might be a pretty fun movie. Take a peek at the trailer and get ready to visit "Zombieland" when it opens in wide release later this year.

Thirst'y for a Red Band Trailer

"Thirst" is the latest from Park Chan-Wook, director of "Oldboy", and it looks pretty fucking amazing. This, along with "Let the Right One In" are doing much more for the vampire horror sub-genre than any "Twilight" movie is. In fact, I think the "Twilight" phenomenon is diluting what a vampire movie should be all about. To the untrained eye, Megan Fox in sweatpants wouldn't be much more desirable than Megan Fox in a painted-on micro-dress/skirt. But around here, we look at the details. I know that at first glance that picture above of Megan Fox just looks alright, but if you focus in on the crotch area, you'll get to see a fully realized and well defined camel toe. I don't watch much television programming on Bravo. So, I'm not all that familiar with "The Real Housewives of New York". My wife is, but not me. About a year ago, I remember posting naked pictures of one of them, but Photobucket took those down and I lost interest. But, here's another one of the cast members, Bethenny Frankel, at some event over the weekend, wearing clothes that are, pretty much, completely see through. And, there's even a hint of camel-toe for those that are into that. Is this how they are perpetuating their 15 minutes of fame? It's Always Drunky in Philadelphia

I am quite fond of FX Network's "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". It's by far, one of the funniest shows on cable TV. And this interview on the local Philadelphia Fox affiliate I think embraces the spirit of the show. Which is drunken mayhem. Danny DeVito is drunk at just past 8 AM. Futurama: The Return

So, my prayers have been answered. And yes, sometimes I pray for the return of good television programming that was yanked before it's time. I am, of course, talking about "Futurama", a show so superior in quality in comparison to anything that was on TV at that time that FOX decided to cancel it in its infinite wisdom. After all of their previous seasons selling like hotcakes and releasing 4 rather successful straight to DVD movies, "Futurama" has found a new home at Comedy Central, which I hope will treat it the way it deserves to be. You can check out the story at the Variety website. 26 all new episodes will begin airing mid 2010, so make sure you clear your schedule or program your TiVo (or whatever brand of DVR you use).

Left 4 Dead 2 Trailer

I love me a good zombie game. Which is why I played "Left 4 Dead". Now, a new game is coming out that once again pits you and 3 other players against thousands of zombies, but this time, it's in New Orleans. "Left 4 Dead 2" should be worth a try, even if they didn't do anything to improve on the last one (which they did). Looks like they've added some melee specific weapons like chainsaws and . . . frying pans? OK. That last one is a little weird, but the chainsaw part is pretty cool. Check out the video and wait for the game to come out later this year.

Crackdown 2 Trailer

I really enjoyed "Crackdown" for the XBOX 360. The whole cops with superpowers doing whatever they want in a huge city environment was nothing short of fun. "Crackdown 2" is coming out soon, and it looks like we'll get to play around again with these characters, but instead of just fighting regular criminals, it looks like you'll be fighting genetic mutations this time around. Looks cool. The trailer doesn't show you much actual game play, but I'm sure more videos will be coming down the pike. Look out for them, and check out this game when it comes out. It should be good.

Eminem Gets Face Full of Bruno

I didn't watch the MTV Movie Awards this year. Yet. Don't worry, MTV will surely replay it ad-infinitum so I'll get to it eventually. But, from what I heard, this was the highlight of the show. Eminem, noted homophobe, got a little too close to Sacha Baron Cohen's "Bruno" character during the show, and decided the most adult thing to do was get his entourage to swing the comedian around and then storm out of the show. Modern Warfare 2: Now with Less Duty

"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" was by far my favorite of the Call of Duty series so far. I liked that the old and tired WWII first person shooter had been updated with weapons and scenarios from today. Which is why I have largely ignored the current Call of Duty game, "Wolrd at War", because the franchise went back to its WWII heritage and left the modern world behind. So here's Infinity Ward, the geniuses behind COD4, with their sequel to that game that drops the Call of Duty and just goes with "Modern Warfare 2". This game is looking amazing. Just check out the 2 minute+ reveal trailer and tell me that you'd rather be playing a WWII FPS as opposed to this.

"V" Gets Trailer'ed

I don't usually post trailers for TV shows, but this one hit a nostalgic bone in me somewhere, and here it is. I used to watch the original "V" when I was a young'un. Now it's back with better effects, better looking actors, and less 80's cheese . . . but will it be good? Or even better than the original. That I don't know, but I guess we'll find out when this comes out later this year. Look for this show on ABC.
